VP was in car accident; Secret Service first called it 'mechanical failure'
Source: Washington Post
A motorcade taking Vice President Harris to work was in a one-car accident on a closed roadway in D.C. Monday morning, an incident that concerned both the Secret Service director and the vice president and revived worries about the agencys history of concealing its mistakes, according to two people familiar with the incident.
The Secret Service agent driving Harris in a sport utility vehicle struck the curb of a downtown tunnel hard enough that the vehicles tire needed to be replaced, bringing the motorcade to a standstill near Foggy Bottom at about 10:20 a.m., said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share internal discussions.
Harris had to be transferred to another vehicle in the motorcade so agents could safely spirit her to the White House. The routine nature of the travel and the high level of training required for agents who drive the president and vice president led many in the Secret Service, as well as Harris, to question how such an accident could happen.
The Secret Service also failed to note key details of the incident in an electronic message formally alerting senior leadership to the motorcades delay. The agencys protective intelligence division reported that a mechanical failure in the lead car had forced agents to transfer Harris to another vehicle during a scheduled movement to the White House, according to details of the alert shared with The Washington Post.

Sorry to be cynical, but I think this election will flip the USA from a Democracy to a Dictatorship. Oh the price we will all pay for "conservatives"* owning the libs.

*Conservatives? There is nothing conservative about these modern conservatives. Anarchists is a more correct label for them these days.

(34,062 posts)The secret service helped the attack on our government. How do you know this wasnt a test run for coup part II?
IMO, it seems that too many Secret Service agents are "deep state" Trump supporters. If I were Biden / Harris I don't know if I'd trust those agents for my protection.
Somebody check the Secret Services text messages on this.
Time to revise the vetting process.
I suppose the G-men don't want to look weak or incompetent. This incident about Harris ride is much ado about nothing except for the white lies. The serious misrepresentation and lies should have been dealt harshly including firing.
i think the driver & anyone else lying/covering this shit up should be fired! the article on wapo mentioned a couple other times in obama era when ss really covered shit up.

(3,818 posts)Especially when someone posted to tiktok that the USSS had blocked the tunnel until the rim/wheel/tire was changed? Do we really want to notify the public as something happens, allowing every yahoo to run down there and cause some bigger problem over a traffic incident?
Supervisors/superiors were notified at the time of the incident; updates were posted afterwards on vehicle, VP's medical discharge -- all is well in the kingdom...

Harris would be the first step. I just don't like this!!! Get real folks! The next two decisions by the SCOTUS will tell you how worried we should be.
Follow me before you trash this thought. We are just weeks out from the election. Everyone says the GOP is almost certain to win the House. Now, tell me the line of succession IF we have neither a VP or President. I'm done!

Shit, the more I think about it, the worrieder I get. There's so much that can go wrong in a tunnel, especially if radical cons have evil in mind. And escape routes are not exactly what you'd call plentiful inside a tunnel.

(6,896 posts)But I agree it's not routine. Every other time I've had any tire damage from a curb it was a slow leak. I have astigmatism, and while my glasses correct it, they really can't completely eliminate it.
former9thward
(32,030 posts)Did you hit it with the angle and speed the Harris car did? And much more important did your car(s) weigh as much as the VP car which has all sorts of protective, medical and communication equipment in and on it that your cars don't have? A heavy car will blow a tire much easier than a lighter car.

(53,035 posts)They blew the tire only after running into a curb. That's not a mechanical failure. Though I don't buy the idea it was an assassination plot. If they wanted to kill the VP, they could have gotten a lot closer to doing so.

(845 posts)Sometimes an accident is a accident. An armored truck weighs 5 tons and doesnt handle like a normal vehicle.
This doesnt seem like much of a story.
