Isn't it something of an unofficial tradition for the candidates to abdicate their lesser positions when running for the Pres/VP? I may be wrong on this, there are possibly easy examples to the contrary that I am not thinking of at the moment.. (John Kerry running for President, and yet he is still a Senator--perhaps not same election year?)
Not a total loss for him, I suppose, he can still wreck plenty of havoc in that position and keep things mightily hamstrung for the next few years.
