Screams, threats as New Mexico counties try to certify vote

Source: AP

By SUSAN MONTOYA BRYAN and MORGAN LEE

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Deep-seated conspiracy theories about the security of voting machines erupted into heated, angry and at times threatening outbursts Friday as New Mexico counties decided whether to certify results from their recent primary, underscoring the depths of an election crisis that officials fear is foreshadowing darker times ahead for the nation’s democracy.

In one politically conservative county, angry residents greeted their three commissioners with screams and vitriol as they met to consider certification. As the visibly frustrated Torrance County commissioners indicated they were going to vote to certify their election, the audience shouted “Shame on you,” “cowards and traitors,” and “Who elected you?”

The commissioners pleaded with the audience for patience and said concerns about alleged election vulnerabilities eventually would be addressed.

“The time and place to fight this battle is not by canvassing this election,” Chairman Ryan Schwebach told the crowd.

New Mexico’s secretary of state asked the state's Supreme Court on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, to order the Republican-led commission of rural Otero County to certify primary election results after it refused to do so over distrust of Dominion vote-tallying machines. The "frozen wasteland" moniker is misleading. Its one of the most bio-diverse areas of the world and rich in resources, nor is it fully explored. They would ruin all of it.

And we shouldn't export our problems, send them to Centralia, PA instead...it is basically a product of their views.

But if that won't do and we have to export...then I vote for Wittenoom, Australia.

Whatever they do supplies immediate gratification (in this case, trump got people to believe the election was fraudulent and he did so without any backup whatsoever. He then parlayed that into $250 million). They never think it through; they never consider what the ramifications of their actions might be.

I think it does take a bit of imagination to understand how this might turn on you, but not much. Apparently even a little imagination is beyond them.

Due to their neural architecture, conservatives are wired for pre-civilization survival. Back when fear was our greatest tool for survival, imagination was something of a hinderance. Abstract concepts or knowing the orbital mechanics of planets didn't put 'food on the family', so they weren't only superfluous, but spending even a minute thinking of such things was a liability.

We've found that this results in 'low effort thinking'. So much so that anything more complex than a kitchen table budget is completely beyond them.
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0146167212439213

"The ends justify the means" is their idea of an 'expedient solution', but they can't wrap their heads around the concept that 'the ends are the offspring of the means'.

They literally can't understand HOW to think beyond 2 dimensions.

Couy voted not to certify. The other two commissioners voted to certify. One gave as her reason: she could be removed and replaced by Governor and she is here for the ranchers.
My friend was just thrown out (forcibly removed by Sheriff) for voicing his opinion… as the minority opinion.
We have a Democratic candidate for County Commissioner. More about Stephanie DuBois in near future.

32. Sentenced to 14 days and a $3000 fine
Fri Jun 17, 2022, 07:38 PM
Jun 2022

"At Griffin’s sentencing Friday, McFadden noted the “tension” between Griffin’s professed remorse in the courtroom and his numerous public statements after his conviction. But the judge said very few people who didn’t enter the Capitol on Jan. 6 were charged, and sentenced Griffin to 14 days in jail and a $3,000 fine. Griffin already served 20 days in jail upon his arrest last year, so he was released Friday.

After his sentencing, Griffin implored reporters to follow up on discredited conspiracy theories about the Capitol doors mysteriously opening on Jan. 6, an Arizona man falsely accused of being an FBI agitator in the crowd, and the possibility that voting machines in New Mexico might be electronically hacked. He said he would participate in an Otero County commission meeting later Friday by phone to refuse to certify a recent election until the voting machines are inspected.

Federal prosecutors had pointed out that the secretary of state in New Mexico has asked for a criminal investigation into Griffin’s actions in refusing to certify the primary election there. An online fundraiser for Griffin has also raised nearly $50,000."
