Vladimir Putin 'survived assassination attempt' soon after Ukraine invasion

Brussels: Vladimir Putin survived an assassination attempt shortly after his invasion of Ukraine, Kyiv’s top military intelligence official said on Monday night, Brussels time.

Major General Kyrylo Budanov, the head of military intelligence, said the Russian authorities foiled the attack on the president two months earlier. “There were attempts to kill Putin,” Budanov, 36, told Ukrainska Pravda, a Ukrainian online newspaper.

“There was an assassination attempt recently by, as they call it, representatives of the Caucasus. This was not in the public domain. A completely failed attempt, but it really did happen about two months ago.”

Major General Budanov did not provide any details and it was unclear if he was referring to Russia’s North Caucasus that saw two separatist wars in the 1990s or the South Caucasus, which includes Georgia.

The single source is Ukraine's Major General Kyrylo Budanov, the head of military intelligence. Without details or other sources this sounds a lot like wishful thinking (and propaganda) from the Ukrainians.

Time will tell!

I believe nothing from the Russian government without independent verification from a reliable source.

Reports like this from either side should be taken with a bit of salt. I will avoid getting my hopes up about efforts to remove Putin until there are reliable reports he has been deposed - preferably with extreme prejudice.

but we have posted other news items that originated with Ukrainian intelligence, such as the sinking of the Moskva, which people found hard to believe initially.

i got a frog in my throat as well over this fake news. Somebody's trying to make putin out to be a victim. On behalf of millions of people, i hope its his own comrades who do him in.

We know there will be another one at least. I'm surprised tRump is still alive since he has as many enemies as Putin.

Hell, if I were sure I'd be 100% successful and I was going to die of a terminal illness really soon I'd do it myself. My sister said the same thing. There must be a ton of people who want both of them to disappear forever. Personally I'd prefer to see them suffer in pure agony for the rest of their miserable lives but offing them would benefit the whole planet so the sooner the better.
