Federal Election Commission deadlocks, won't punish Trump

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Election Commission has decided not to take action against former President Donald Trump after commissioners deadlocked over whether his campaign broke the law by masking how it was spending cash during the 2020 campaign.

In a letter on Monday, the FEC notified the Campaign Legal Center of the outcome. The nonprofit group first brought the complaint against Trump in 2020, alleging his campaign was “laundering” hundreds of millions in spending from mandatory public disclosure by routing payments through companies that were tied to his former campaign manager, Brad Parscale.

The practice has long been considered against the law. But in recent years, the FEC, which is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, has frequently deadlocked on major decisions such at this one.

That has effectively set a series of new precedents that have slowly whittled away at the law governing how money can be used in national politics. Still unclear is what sort of legal rationale was used to justify the decision.

I was just reading that the lawsuit E. Jean Carroll brought against trumpie is going forward and he has been ordered to provide a DNA sample. Not the assault - statute of limitations (as if there should be one on sexual assault), this one is the defamation suit. If that sample matches the dress . . . there could be a groundswell to accompany the forthcoming Summer of Rage that is going to hit.

There is no way anyone could look at the evidence and not rule that they broke the rules.

It makes me vomit that these people cannot live up to their oaths and the requirements of their offices.

This is how fascism begins.

This is probably due to it being crafted way back when there were some Republicans who favored election integrity over their own party. The inherent even split, when one side of the commission is manned by partisan rubber stampers, makes it ineffective in halting abuse.

There was legislation introduced about a year ago to help remedy this.

But first there will be the bloodletting of a uncivilized war.

What I find funny, I read way to much history, when the right wings reign of terror begins after
The uncivilized war, It begins with their obvious enemies

Then they will got to the hard ones:parts of the military, intel agencies, etc

Then they will have no one but themselves

The paranoia kicks in and the once leaders of the stupid ass movement; will be next, then they will split and fight each other

Then they will either be stronger or decay into an easy target for someone to take over

History doesn’t repeat, it rhymes and echos

the Koch financed assault on our democratic institution has sniffed out to and capitalized on to advance their fascist agenda. There have been way too many of them. Meanwhile, the rest of us — those who don’t ascribe — have been collectively fiddling as a whole. Not intentionally, but out of a basic tendency to trust others and our once relatively shining systems of governance. (“Relatively” because if we are being honest, our “systems” have been far from perfect for those who aren’t white, male, straight, etc.)
