Pa. Lt. Governor John Fetterman Recovering After Stroke

Source: CBS News

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman is recovering following a stroke, his campaign announced Sunday. Fetterman, who is running for the Democratic nomination for the state's U.S. Senate seat, did not suffer "any cognitive damage," a release from his campaign said. He went to the hospital on Friday after he "wasn't feeling well."

"I had a stroke that was caused by a clot from my heart being in an A-fib rhythm for too long. Fortunately, Gisele spotted the symptoms and got me to the hospital within minutes. The amazing doctors here were able to quickly and completely remove the clot, reversing the stroke, they got my heart under control as well. It's a good reminder to listen to your body and be aware of the signs," the release said.

Fetterman said he is feeling "much better" and on his way to a "full recovery." "They're keeping me here for now for observation, but I should be out of here sometime soon. The doctors have assured me that I'll be able to get back on the trail, but first I need to take a minute, get some rest, and recover," Fetterman said in the release.

Fetterman said his campaign for U.S. Senate is not "slowing down." Four Democrats are running for Senate nomination: Fetterman, U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb, state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta and Jenkintown council member Alexandria Khalil. The primary election is Tuesday...

the A-fib problem. There are lots of things they can do now in this area. My wife has battled A-fib since she was in her teens, as have many in her family. She now takes meds and has had several ablations to get it under control. She's going to turn 72 next month.

I finally went to UPMC and had an ablation 2 1/2 years ago and, knock on wood, have been fine ever since. I know we're not supposed to push products, but Eliquis is the best anti-blood clotter out there. Coincidently I have a routine Dr. appointment Tuesday with the excellent Dr. who did my ablation.

Being in A-fib for long periods weakens the heart, I was down to 35-40% ejection rate. Since my ablation I am back up to normal heart strength. I just got done riding my bike for 1 hr 15 minutes.

I am going to ask my Dr. about Fetterman, next week I will have a report, just kidding.

I don't take drugs for my A-fib since the ablation, except for Eliquis which I am going to ask if I can stop taking that.

enough office?

This is one of the most important races that will help who controls the Senate my friend, and it is critical we win this race.

I don't actually care which Democrat wins the race, as long as that Democrat wins the general election.

As I understand it there are 37% undecided in the Democratic primary according to the polls:

"Lt. Gov. John Fetterman leads with 33% in the Democratic primary, followed by US Representative Conor Lamb with 10%. No other candidate reaches double digits; 37% are undecided."

Here in PA, if he happens to actually win this race and then something happens and he dies in office, his replacement would be done by the Governor. And if we in PA VOTE for Josh Shapiro for Governor alongside of Fetterman, then that governor would be a Democrat.

I would say that a large number of Senators (and people in general) have some kind of medical issue.

And the poll that you linked to is old, so not sure why that one was selected as it was from data back in March. There were much newer ones posted like -

May 5, 2022 Franklin and Marshall Poll - https://upload.democraticunderground.com/100216663397 (poll link via viewer)

Democratic primary: Fetterman 53%, Lamb 14%, Kenyatta 4%

And I had posted recently about a Monmouth Poll (published Apr. 27, 2022) - https://www.monmouth.edu/polling-institute/reports/monmouthpoll_pa_042722/ (document as PDF)

ETA - was trying to figure out where the heck I posted the poll screenshot and it was in an OP in the PA Group that had an article referencing that latest Franklin & Marshall Poll - https://www.democraticunderground.com/107416298

Scared me there for a minute! Best wishes to him.

I thought I had one a couple of years ago when a migraine didn't resolve as usual. Dumb hospitalist at the local hospital (who didn't know me from Adam's off ox) was as clueless as a rock, MRI and CT showed nothing. My brother, who is an MD living in Montana, tried to call the hospitalist who would not speak to him. Brother, who knows me much better, suggested I most likely had a complex migraine. He and I are both chronic migraineurs, having had parents who both had them.
