Republicans warn Justice Department probe of Trump would trigger political war
Source: The Hill
Republican lawmakers are warning that any Department of Justice prosecution of former President Trump will turn into a political battle, setting a high bar for Attorney General Merrick Garland to act on an expected criminal referral from the Houses Jan. 6 committee.
...
Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) said any criminal referral from the House would probably have as much political taint on it as you can get.
...
I think it could backfire in a way that they have no clue, said Republican pollster Jim McLaughlin. I think its going to backfire because it just so political and its tainted.
...
Ford OConnell, a Republican strategist, said a prosecution will only make Trump stronger with the GOP primary voters.
If your goal is to make sure Donald Trump is the nominee in 2024 for the Republicans, then by all means proceed with this. Youre just going to make him stronger, he said.

Are they threatening that they'll act like republicans? They are idiots.

(1,108 posts)A threat like this is the very definition of Obstruction of Justice...
Legal Definition of obstruction of justice
: the crime or act of willfully interfering with the process of justice and law especially by influencing, threatening, harming, or impeding a witness, potential witness, juror, or judicial or legal officer or by furnishing false information in or otherwise impeding an investigation or legal process the defendant's obstruction of justice led to a more severe sentence

(28,788 posts)So please proceed accordingly, Mr. Garland.
Also, how would prosecuting Trump lead to worse behavior by Republicans, anyway? They've already obstructed and broken government because they don't believe in government. So really, going after Trump is just pulling back the curtain to expose what they're doing behind the scene to destroy democracy.

(7,101 posts)They must have discussed how to politically sabotage the indictment. They must have passed the word "tainted" back and forth.
Each time they open their mouths, they make it obvious that they are traitors. I wonder if we can count the war in Ukraine as the war necessary to prosecute them ALL as TRAITORS.
They have a lot of nerve to threaten us like that. Trump is a Putin puppet, and they support that. It has nothing to do with fairness, or justice, or anything like that. It has to do with hiding their own complicity in crime.
And, Russia gave them money.
