2. Gunman reported deceased; sounds like an assault on the synagogue was implemented.

7. And no taxpayers' money will have to be spent trying and convicting him.
Not to mention housing, feeding, and clothing him for the rest of his life (or however long he's incarcerated).

11. Yeah.
It still would have been better if everyone lived. If some one had to die I am glad it was the person who started this mess. I am not defending his actions, I just dont like police killing suspects so much.

12. In this instance they spent 12 hours while those people were held hostage trying to negotiate
The hostage taker refused to release them for a half a day. A full 12 hours. The longer these types of situations go on without a peaceful resolution, the less chance the victims will survive the event. The more tired and desperate they become, the higher the chance of a bad outcome for the victims if the person holding them is not receptive to turning themselves in. That's just hard facts.
Ultimately, I'm grateful the innocent victims survived, even if they're forever changed. It's not their fault this person chose this heinous course of events. Even though they'll relive all this for the rest of their lives. |

14. The best outcome is dont take people hostage.
The next best is he gives up, no one hurt.
Sorry, but see both those as better then only the suspect dead. True, hostages dead would be worse, but cops killing people isn't the best outcome. |

16. The better scenario, granted, but....
authorities may not have had a choice. Very credible threats to start killing hostages if demands aren't met is a possibility. It was a judgement call I'm glad I don't have to make.

17. Texas Hostage Taker Identified as British Citizen
The man who took four hostages at a synagogue in Texas on Saturday is a 44 year-old British citizen, the FBI said Sunday.
In a statement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation identified the man as Malik Faisal Akram. Mr. Akram died late Saturday after a standoff that lasted more than 10 hours in the Dallas suburb of Colleyville. An elite FBI rescue team that flew in from Quantico, Va., stormed the synagogue and freed three of the hostages, authorities said. One hostage was released earlier, and none were harmed. A law-enforcement official with knowledge of the situation said Mr. Akram is believed to have flown from Britain to the U.S. in recent days. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/texas-hostage-taker-identified-as-british-citizen/ar-AASQa7x |

...don't pick up a chair or some sort of bludgeon and bash the asshat over the head. If I was taken hostage, I'd be darned sure looking for a moment when I could knock the f**ker out...

25. 'We were terrified': Texas rabbi says he threw a chair at synagogue gunman to facilitate escape
Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker has publicly described for the first time the moment he and two other hostages escaped a gunman in his synagogue in Colleyville, Texas, on Saturday
“The last hour or so of the standoff, he wasn’t getting what he wanted,” Cytron-Walker told the BBC in an interview posted on Monday morning. “It didn’t look good. It didn’t sound good. We were very, we were terrified. “And when I saw an opportunity where he wasn’t in a good position, I made sure that the two gentlemen who were still with me that they were ready to go. The exit wasn’t too far away. I told them to go, I threw a chair at the gunman and I headed for the door. And all three of us were able to get out without even a shot being fired.” The 11-hour standoff in the Fort Worth suburb Saturday ended when an FBI SWAT team raided the synagogue after the rabbi and two other hostages fled. The gunman, Malik Faisal Akram, a British citizen, died in the raid. more... |
