Donald Trump defends calls to hang Mike Pence during Capitol riot

Source: JPost

Former US president Donald Trump defended his supporters who during the January 6 Capitol riot threatened to hang then-vice president Mike Pence, Axios reported on Friday.

The comments were made in an interview with Trump in Mar-a-Lago back in March by Jonathan Karl for his new book, Betrayal, which is slated for release next week.

...

Regarding the chants to hang Pence, Trump justified it by saying "well, the people were very angry."

When Karl continued by saying "They were saying 'hang Mike Pence,'" Trump replied that "it's common sense."

The only thing that will fix the US is a strongman.

As much as I hate to say it, our Constitutional Republic is dead and has been for some time now. Law enforcement is arbitrary. The inner workings of government are hidden from us. The FBI, CIA, NSA have been weaponized against the people.
Someone needs to seize power and set things straight by force.

I am not one of those who put “democracy” above liberty. I would much rather have a benevolent dictator tell me I can do what I want as long as I don’t hurt others than I would have a vote on whether I am allowed to live as a free human.

Trump is still the President. He never left. Biden has been allowed to assume an administrative role to showcase how bad it would be if things were run poorly.

For all those folks who have not woken up. Trump just announced that he sent his envoy Ric Grenell to Kosovo the other day regarding the Abraham Accords. Mike Pompeo announced that he looks forward to working with Younkin. Mark Meadows remarks that Trump is holding regular cabinet meetings. Trump continues to ride around openly in a full presidential motorcade with ambulance.

Listen to Trump’s speech from Maralago the other night. Note the names of the people he gives shout outs to. Guys like Ratcliffe, Whitaker, Gen Berger. Then the last thing he does is thank “our wonderful first lady”. Present tense. This is what devolution looks like.

1. After having his life threatened by Trump's rage, he didn't want to risk enraging him again.

Or

2. He was threatened directly if he acted against Trump.

Or

3. He didn't want to anger Republicans because he wants his own chance at the WH in the future.

OR

4. All of the above.

would stop acting like the 25th Amendment was some sort of charm or talisman that can remove a president.

here is paragraph 4 of the 25th.

Section 4.
Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

So basically Pence (and the majority of the cabinet) can say "not fit" and boom, the president is no longer president right up to the point that the president says "nuh uh...I am fine" and then he is back being president.

While the VP et al could say "nope, still not fit" again, it would then require a 2/3 vote in the House AND a 2/3 vote in the Senate to remove the president.

Tell me again how many votes there were in the House to impeach?
And how many votes there were in the Senate to find him guilty?

Do you honestly think, for a moment, that there would have been enough votes to remove Trump under the 25th Amendment?

He's bought his own lie, right down to the point that he believes it's OK for his mob to want to kill the Vice-President. I don't think he would have felt any guilt or remorse if they did...only relief that it would have stopped the certification of the election.

as a pussy.” TFG was hoping for so much violence and bloodshed that very well could have been the cold
blooded murder of Mike Pence and Speaker Pelosi so he could martial law and suspend the results of the election
because he knew that out of office he would be prosecuted both criminally and civilly.

Overlooked Shocker:

Trump Acting Defense Secretary Miller Testified Wednesday That Trump Wanted the National Guard to Protect the Insurrectionists, Not the Capitol and Members of Congress!

by Mark Karlin, editor
Buzz flash.com, May 13, 2021

Wednesday marked an inflection point for Trump’s “Big Lie.” However, whether it is the beginning or the end of the gaslighting of America into a totalitarian dictatorship remains to play itself out.

Most notably, the corporate media and many progressive outlets failed to headline the shocking admission by former Trump Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller (assigned in the last few weeks of the Trump reign to facilitate the coup attempt). Miller stated matter-of-factly to a Congressional committee that Trump was aware of the need for the National Guard, but that Trump was only interested in having the Guard protect the “Constitutional rights” of the protesters (insurrectionists).

According to Miller, Trump said "do whatever was necessary to protect the demonstrators that were executing their constitutionally protected rights." That’s right, Trump wasn’t interested in protecting elected officials in the Capitol, just his cult followers.

Snip...

McCarthy also made his mark on Wednesday by sending out e-mail donation text requests after a “bipartisan” meeting with President Biden, McConnell and Pelosi that read, "It's Kevin McCarthy. I just met with Corrupt Joe Biden and he's STILL planning to push his radical Socialist agenda onto the American people."

Continues w/ video, links, sausages...

Here's a tweet from the author. It includes an audio recording of the exchange.

Trump didn't say that hanging Mike Pence was "common sense". What he referred to as "common sense" was the idea that Pence should have refused to certify the election results.

When Jonathan Karl mentioned the "Hang Mike Pence" chant, Trump ignored it, talked over him, and continued what he had been saying about the allegedly fraudulent vote.

TRUMP: Because it's -- it's common sense Jon, it's common sense, that you're supposed to protect. How can you -- if you know a vote is fraudulent, right -- how can you pass on a fraudulent vote to Congress?

Trump made it clear that he wasn't concerned about Pence being harmed, supposedly because he thought Pence was safe. He justified his supporters' actions by saying they were "very angry" -- but he said that before Karl specifically mentioned the "Hang Mike Pence" chant.

Trump ignored the question about the "Hang Mike Pence" chant. He may well have thought it was a good idea. But at least in this interview, he didn't directly support it.

(And I hate defending Donald Trump.)
