Florida sets COVID record with 11,515 people hospitalized

FORT LAUDERDALE — The number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida rose to an all-time high of 11,515 patients in one day, according to data the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released Tuesday.

The data is used by the Florida Hospital Association to track admissions and staffing shortages. The figures also show 2,400 of those patients are in ICU beds.

The previous day, the data showed there were 10,389 COVID-hospitalizations in the state.

The new number breaks a previous record for current hospitalizations set more than a year ago before vaccines were available. Last year, Florida hit its previous peak on July 23, with 10,170 hospitalizations....................................

9. It's nuts here. But the people are more concerned now than last year.

Including many conservatives. Of course not the crazy base.

Lots, lots more mask in my area. A great majority in the Publix I shop at. Of course I doubt that is mirrored in the hard core red areas, but my area is not really blue although we have the 11th highest vac rate in the state.

Six people I consider friends or at least casual friends have or recently had it. And all under 65.

One in the ICU for a week and still on oxygen. The one thing they have in common? All republicans voters and all unvaccinated. 4 in a household of 5. 4 had it. The one who didn’t is the only vaccinated in the household.

The unvaccinated are killing themselves.

We need new mask mandates and many of our local leaders are ready to do it but the Governor has banned it. This is backfiring on him.
