LANSING A months-long Republican investigation into Michigans 2020 election uncovered no evidence of widespread fraud and concluded Wednesday with a recommendation the attorney general investigate those who made false claims for "personal gain."
The 35-page report prepared by Sen. Ed McBroom, R-Vulcan, dives deep to debunk conspiracy theories perpetuated by former President Donald Trump and some of his supporters in the wake of the Michigan election, which Democratic President Joe Biden won by 154,188 votes.
While the Senate Oversight Committee investigation revealed some glaring issues and vulnerabilities the Legislature should fix, there is no evidence presented at this time to prove either significant acts of fraud or that an organized, wide-scale effort to commit fraudulent activity was perpetrated in order to subvert the will of Michigan voters, McBroom wrote.
"Our clear finding is that citizens should be confident the results represent the true results of the ballots cast by the people of Michigan," the report concluded. The committee strongly recommends citizens use a critical eye and ear toward those who have pushed demonstrably false theories for their own personal gain.

(3,433 posts)The adults in the Republican Party are beginning to see a bleak future....and they want their party back.
Much of the story will be told in the dynamics of right-wing media. Will Fox News pivot to a more moderate position...ceding the crazies to Newsmax and OAN?
I hope that an airing of the corruption and Russian entanglements coming out of the courts will awaken the shell-shocked moderates. We need a range of ideas competing for policy decisions.
I may be dreaming, but I hope a new breed of leaders emerges from the ashes of the current GOP. I hope they bring policy-based visions rooted in the common good.
Can the current generation of kooks in the party be purged as their leaders are exposed and jailed? I certainly hope so.

(11,547 posts)Sorry, but I have to take strong exception to that statement. GOPer policy will be always be aligned with what's best for the top 1 percent, no matter who is in charge. Some simply see the writing on the wall that they'll go down in flames with such an overtly criminal enterprise leading their party.

What a goddamned waste of money and time. And those who pushed these very dangerous and ludicrous "voter fraud" claims should have the book thrown at them.

Make it about dollars and cents if you want to change votes to the Democratic side of the ballot.
Otherwise it's time and money wasted.

(4,944 posts)They take each specific fraud allegation, explain how they investigated it, test to see whether the fraud was even possible, present their results and conclusions.
This should be a model for examining voter fraud claims wherever they are proclaimed. They pretty much cover all the bases.

(38,633 posts)It's very thorough.
It SHOULD be enough to settle the issue once and for all.
But of course, there are people who will never be convinced.
The people of Michigan should be proud of the people who run their elections. These are hard-working people who have been falsely accused of "looking the other way." This report shows, that the claims of fraud were indeed investigated.
Good work, Michigan.

(43,641 posts)We Democrats know. Our kind lacks the expertise to cheat well, let alone massively. Also, if we were that good, wouldn't we have a majority of like 72% to 30% by now?
So what the Big Liar crowd is saying? That they themselves are figuring how to cheat, disenfranchise, steal, rig.
That's what I see anyway.
