Gaetz says he won't resign

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) told The Hill on Friday he has no plans of stepping down after coming under fire following reports that the Department of Justice is investigating him for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a minor and a possible violation of sex trafficking laws
In a text exchange with The Hill, the Florida Republican said rumors he plans to resign from his are "false" and it is "very safe" to say he doesn't have any intention to do so.
The New York Times first reported the investigation was taking place on Tuesday evening, with a second report emerging Thursday detailing accusations that he and former Florida county tax collector Joel Greenberg paid multiple women who were recruited for sex online.
Gaetz one of former President Trumps most vocal allies in Congress has vehemently denied he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, stating during an interview with Fox News Tucker Carlson that he is being accused of relations with a teenager that does not exist.

(10,565 posts)Gaetz. Gaetz has no support in his own party. He's an entitled jerk whose powerful daddy bought him his seat in Congress.

I predict that there will be some major news releases and he will be gone...
If not - he will double down and hang in there till they arrest him and he is perp walked out of Congress....something that would be a sight to behold...

(6,008 posts)but is anyone speaking out against him, saying he should resign? And by that I mean on the record, elected republicans bemoaning the state of their party off the record is worth about as much as a wet fart. They'll take no concrete action against him until irrefutable evidence is made public.

(962 posts)Gaetz is a classic narcissist. It's all about him. I have to say though, I'm a little tired of these wealthy Florida perverts sexually assaulting little girls. They think that they have a right to destroy a young girl's life because they are rich. I have to say, I'd be more than happy go to prison if one of these guys ever assaulted my daughter and I found out. Fortunately for everyone, I only have sons.
Hugh_Lebowski
(33,643 posts)Not sure where you're getting that Gaetz sexually assaulted anyone?
I suppose he might have but that's not the accusation. It seems to be more along the lines of statutory rape.
And I have a feeling if there is such a 17 year old, it's going to turn out that she was working as an escort. Just kinda putting 2 and 2 together here.
Which, if true, is going to complicate things.
Not for a regular person, they'd still be in deep shit.
But a famous person, with a lot of money to pay top lawyers?
It may well turn out to be problematic in terms of Justice finding him.

Hugh_Lebowski
(33,643 posts)He cannot be made to retire apart from that.
Evidence out there right now is not anywhere enough to convince enough RePuQ's in the House to 'retire' him.
Though I suppose he might go to jail ... that'd be like retirement.

Statutory rape and sex trafficking count as two of the three.
And as long as the Capitol Police are in there dragging off this puddle of rancid pus, make it a full day and capture all the GQPers who were directing the coup attempt.
