Oddly, I couldn't find the story in the Virginian-Pilot. I'll give that another look.
I usually think of these as local stories, but this made the opening of Good Morning America at 8:00 a.m.
Also, yesterday was the first warm day of the year. It won't be as warm in Virginia Beach today as it was yesterday. There are showers in the forecast for later today.

(10,856 posts)Actually they did, just from a earlier generation.
Many handguns used in the Old West were Civil War surplus like the Colt Model 1848 Percussion Army Revolver, a .44 caliber revolver designed by Samuel Colt for the U.S. Army's Regiment of Mounted Rifles.
And at the time a six shooter was high capacity compared to earlier single shot muzzle loaders.
They didn't use contemporary military style weapons.

Of course, reporters are not very consistent in trying to make clear the difference between fact and speculation. And speculation is much more interesting.

Two people are dead and eight people were wounded in shootings along Virginia Beach's oceanfront, police said Saturday. Eight people were shot just after 11 p.m. Friday, Virginia Beach police said in a news release. All eight were taken to local hospitals, with some of their conditions ranging from serious to life-threatening.
One woman died of a gunshot wound on the scene, the release said. At an earlier news conference, police Chief Paul Neudigate said the death possibly stemmed from an unrelated shooting. The release also said one officer suffered minor injuries. Neudigate had said the officer was struck by a vehicle during the investigation.
A different officer fatally shot a man at the shooting scene. While officers were investigating the original shooting, shots were fired nearby, Neudigate said. The officer confronted the man, leading to the deadly gunfire.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave. He has been with the department for five years and is assigned to its special operations division.

We had our own "mass shooting" overnight here at a sports bar with 7 shot -

U.S. News & World Report
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Seven people were wounded in a Friday night shooting in Philadelphia, police there said. Three of the wounded were in critical condition four were stable, news outlets reported. A person of interest was in custody.
The shooting took place outside Golf & Social, a three-floor sports bar in the city's riverfront Northern Liberties district. A man who answered the phone at the bar declined to comment, saying he couldn't give clear information as the shooting happened outside the venue.
The situation started as an altercation inside the bar that spilled outside, according to news outlets.
The bar, located near the Delaware River bank, is across the street from the Rivers Casino.

Sorry a little OT but it's interesting how they characterize the neighborhood where our local shooting took place - some, including the Philly Inquirer and CBS3 claiming it was in "Fishtown" and others including AP and 6ABC are claiming it is "Northern Liberties". They have been gentrifying both neighborhoods, although Northern Liberties, which is just north of "Olde City", is further along in that endeavor, so it looks like some "political" shifting going on regarding where it "occurred".
And LOL - just found this that might be part of the "problem" - https://www.phillyvoice.com/maps-make-you-wonder-what-fishtown/
(the green is generally where Northern Liberties is just north of the Ben Franklin bridge and the red is generally where Fishtown is... sortof )

(18,482 posts)I've seen the evening news name the wrong neighborhood for a location now and then. I mostly watch the channel 3 news. I've lived in Mayfair, Holmesburg, Port Richmond and East Germantown. I guess they try to name an area to get the attention of more people.
BumRushDaShow
(129,449 posts)because both are actively being gentrified, there might be that... ahem... attempt to move the "crime" to a different neighborhood!
(I live in NW Philly by the way and they often screw up where the Oak Lanes begin/end with respect to Germantown and the Mt. Airys so... )

(2,022 posts)is so odd. A number of shootings in one day in a city like New Orleans or Chicago aren't news, unless they are all together.
I have always felt that if it was pets being shot, something would be done. Humans don't get the same level of sympathy.

the first was likely a "respect" shooting, where a confrontation between testosterone-addled young males in a crowd leads to chaotic gunfire.
the second was apparently a confrontation with police, where an armed suspect is confronted and is summarily executed when they don't comply immediately.

I know its macabre to think about it, but sometimes I wonder....what it would take? Because I suspect that there is more than one MAGAT that secretly admires the RW shooters for doing what they wish they could do....kill a bunch of liberal scum or dirty immigrants or nwords. But if the shoe was on the other foot, they may be shocked into realizing they have to have limits in order to keep the antifa child rapists from taking over.
Nah....who am I kidding. They'd react by enacting even more open carry laws and increasing the police military budget.
