Man arrested outside Vice President Kamala Harris' official residence and had rifle and ammunition
Source: CNN
Washington, DC, police arrested a Texas man outside Vice President Kamala Harris' official residence, the US Naval Observatory, in the nation's capital on Wednesday and he's now facing weapons and ammunition charges.
A spokesperson for Washington's Metropolitan Police said officers responded "at approximately 12:12 pm, to the 3400 block of Massachusetts Avenue, NW in reference to a suspicious person based on an intelligence bulletin that originated from Texas, who was detained by US Secret Service." Law enforcement contacted the man after a region-wide intelligence bulletin had been issued for the suspect.
DC police say officers arrested and charged 31-year-old Paul Murray, of San Antonio, and that a rifle and ammunition were recovered from his vehicle.
According to police, he's been charged with several counts: carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a rifle or shotgun outside of a business, possession of unregistered ammunition and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

Although theyve had to put off their move into the official vice presidents residence, Vice President Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff are in very good hands. As temporary residents of Blair House, the presidents elegant guesthouse, they have access to historic antique-filled rooms (120 of them) and the gracious hospitality and amenities that the guesthouse extends to visiting heads of state. And you cant beat the commute: Its right across the street from the White House complex and the vice presidents offices.
Harris and Emhoff must wait for some maintenance to be completed at the official vice presidents residence an 1893 Victorian on the wooded grounds of the Naval Observatory, about two miles away before they can move in. Crews are working on new liners for the chimneys and other tasks in the 33-room home, according to an aide in the vice presidents office.
Its such a cozy and beautiful place, Capricia Marshall, a former chief of protocol and current board member of the Blair House Restoration Fund, says of the guesthouse. There is so much history here, and it tells the great story of our country. So many presidents have passed through that black and white marble threshold. Yes, it has a lot of square footage, but it feels like a home.
The vice president and Emhoff moved into Blair House on Thursday, after spending Wednesday night at their condo in the District. Security at the condo complex was ramped up after Novembers election, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, and was becoming a daily hassle for other residents. Blair House was a natural choice for a highly secure Washington government location. Blair House has been the presidents guesthouse since 1942. It has become the traditional quarters for the incoming president on the eve of the inauguration and a place for diplomatic entertaining.

I remember when Poppy and Barbara were living at Blair House.

(129,080 posts)In 1989, Barbara Bush was diagnosed with Graves' disease. Then, two years later, George H.W. Bush came down with itjust in time for his re-election campaign.

The underlying problem was diagnosed as Graves disease, the same disorder his wife had, although it affected them in different wayshis heart, her eyes. Like her, his treatment included drinking radioactive iodine. Doctors began drawing blood every day as they tried to carefully moderate his hormone levels. Too little would leave him lethargic; too much risked tripping his heart into fibrillation.
The oddity of both Barbara and George Bush being diagnosed with the same noncontagious disease while at the White House posed a medical mystery that was never authoritatively settled. The fact that both were under stress, perhaps coupled with a genetic predisposition for the disease, was the least conspiratorial medical explanation. Their son Marvins diagnosis in 1985 of ulcerative colitis was another indication of a possible genetic predisposition for autoimmune disorders in the family.
Still, some wondered if there had been an environmental trigger at the White House or in the vice presidents residence, where they had lived for eight years. Or perhaps some aftereffect, innocent or nefarious, from their time in Beijing, where Bush served as the top U.S. diplomat for more than a year. Barbara Bush told me there were all sorts of rumors about the Russians looking down on us. The Soviet Embassy was less than a mile from the vice presidents residence, and built on higher ground. Had the Soviets been up to no good?
The water and air in the White House already were managed in ways to guard against contamination. The vice presidents residence, though, built in 1893 for the superintendent of the U.S. Naval Observatory, was aging. Second lady Marilyn Quayle was concerned that the Bushes ailments might signal some problem there. The water, the plumbing, the paint were tested; nothing notable was found. But there was never a full-fledged investigation into what might have contributed to both Bushes developing the same autoimmune disorder, and within 15 months of each other, not to mention Millies ailment.

As this stuff was playing out back then, I believe they were moved there temporarily when there was extensive testing for potential environmental hazards (e.g., the plumbing, paint, etc). Later before Poppy's inauguration, he was there (for convenience) -

Mr. Bush's day began about 6 A.M., when he awoke at Blair House, the Government guest quarters, across the street from the White House. The Bush family, the Quayles and close associates then attended a religious service at St. John's Episcopal Church.

(11,564 posts)...I can't help but muse about a parallel with the prevalence of hemophilia among the royal houses of Europe.
BumRushDaShow
(129,080 posts)it was found that the disease was genetic but I expect among many of the wealthy, the multi-generational inter-marrying might have introduced more of that sort of thing in their gene pools since they often rarely married "outside of" their tight circles.
OT - I used to live a couple doors down from a family whose son was a hemophiliac. You just don't hear about it that much anymore although the disorder is still out there.

(129,080 posts)Of course nowadays, there are standard screening tests to determine if there are any genetic anomalies (particularly for those soon-to-be parents).

He simply wasn't successful- this time.
And I still believe that the GOP's in the Senate did a disservice by not holding 45 accountable for January 6. 45's acquittal meant implicit approval of other MAGA actions leading to this day.
