TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Conservative Republicans advanced a proposal Tuesday that would ban transgender students from girl's and women's sports in Kansas schools and colleges, and supporters are increasingly confident of success.
The state Senate Education Committee approved the bill on a voice vote after a brief debate, sending it to the full Senate, where GOP leaders have identified the measure as a priority.
Freshman Rep. Stephanie Byers, a Wichita Democrat and the first transgender state lawmaker elected in Kansas, said the committees vote tells transgender students that they cant just be themselves.
What we just witnessed was the intentional attack on a small group of people that are part of a marginalized community, Byers said.

(4,429 posts)It's only fair. The science is increasingly clear. We need to follow the science.

btw, Joanna Harper is the first author of that second research article. She initially had been arguing for opening up women's sports to trans identified athletes. You can see that cited around the internet - that was when we didn't have enough time to understand the science of this......but now having had time to do more extensive research - she is now publishing on the problems with that.

(7,754 posts)that males remain stronger, even with hormone therapy, then females. So by all means let people choose their sexuality but they don't necessarily get an unfair advantage in all things. Seems schools that want to could create sports programs that involve all choices.

Why is that?
We really need to follow the research on this.

(25,921 posts)(and many, both professional and amateur, have already done) is have two divisions: one specifically for cis women and a second open category for everyone else.
Whether or not the presence of trans athletes proves to be a disadvantage to men is going to be largely ignored, because (let's face it) men have gotten the lion's share of benefits from sports.
