David Hogg launching competitor to Mike Lindell's MyPillow
Source: Axios
...snip...
Details... Hogg wrote that he and LeGate hope to "sell $1 million of product within our first year" and to launch in about six months.
"[W]e would like to do it sooner but we have strict guidelines on sustainability and [U.S.] based Union producers," Hogg added.
"Mike isn't going to know what hit himthis pillow fight is just getting started."

(2,337 posts)Apparently his pillows were not that well regarded, sales are not great and now being sued to the moon, so I doubt he'll be in the pillow business much longer.

Anyway, there should be NO foul cried lest they put a lie on the notion that true capitalists love competition.

(5,157 posts)It was his pitch. He was a master of using buzzwords to do his ads. He would talk about 'patented fill' of his pillow and how it was made 'right here in my home state of Minnesota'. And, he always made sure to wear that cross outside of his shirt and VERY visible. (The first time I saw one of his ads, that was the first thing I noticed.)
This is going to make him go on the RWNJ shows and rant more. I love it. He is a sociopath who managed to fake out the older set by advertising on the channels that old, crazy conservatives watch and coming across as a pious entrepreneur. I am glad he got over meth addiction, but there are times I wish he would just go back to it.
You are so right. If there is any whining other than from Lindell (who cares about his whining?) there should be millions wondering about that very concept.
IronLionZion
(45,534 posts)although he probably should try meth next. He's a college dropout who found it was profitable to use religion to sell stuff to the gullible.
The Better Business Bureau has rated it F because of consistent complaints from MyPillow customers about their fraudulent claims to treat various ailments. Major retailers like Kohls and Bed Bath and Beyond stopped carrying his shitty products because their customers are smarter than Christian radio/tv crowd.

(742 posts)where the pillows are manufactured. I went to the plant and bought one around the year 2010.
The pillow is made up of chunks of foam. The concept is that you're supposed to be able to mold it to your perfect fit and sleep all night. The problem is that when you move the pillow unmolds and you have to wake up and squish it back in place. Awful.
I returned it to angry looks from the receptionist. The place smelled like cigarettes too.

(7,531 posts)Some people find it supportive in ways regular pillows aren't. It's definitely not worth $50 tho. I could make one by tearing up some old yellow eggcrate foam and sewing it into a pillowcase.

(34,137 posts)And pillow liners - they came with zippers so they were easy to stuff. Problem was, the shredded stuff breaks down and end up seeping out through the weave of the pillow liner cloth. I could wash them, but they'd get thinner and thinner as the foam broke down. I don't think the stores sell the pre-shredded foam anymore. Now it's all polyfill or big sheets of foam.

(16,529 posts)For him, it was a self-comfort ritual. He would hump a pillow or a stuffed animal until his eyes glazed over, then curl up and fall asleep. He's gone now. Lived to be about 15 or so (we never knew his exact age) until kidney failure took him. He was one in a million.

(9,654 posts)The photo I posted? That pretty much happened every day.
I was watching this dog for some friends while they were on vacation.
They didn't tell me how much the dog 'loved' this bed.
I would just sit there and laugh my head off.
Then one day, I came in to find this:
Gee, I wonder who did THAT?

(42,862 posts)... because of the a decline in national retail chains willing to carry his product, and the losses he'll experience with the very strong lawsuits being launched against him. For someone to starti company or enter into a business venture like this as a political response does not have a benefit that outweighs the risks, in my opinion. I fear that it's unlikely to be successful (other than some temporary minor success in filling a void left by the demise of My Pillow... but he will not directly cause Lindell's demise) and the likelihood that Hogg's company will fail (or languish) will be used against him, and will ultimately diminish whatever influence he hoped to have in the future. His loyal fans will stick by him through think and thin, but that to me doesn't seem to be sufficient enough support to make the changes he aspires to. I believe the whole thing will be a distraction that holds him back.
And that's my opinion. Others may have different opinions or predictions, but that one is mine... and that's how I see it.

(50,562 posts)Lindell's pillows are made of foam scraps, so they're lumpy. The thing is, a pillow is NOT a hard thing to make - I've made dozens of them. If Mr. Hogg's pillows are nice to sleep on, his backstory will help them sell the pillows as fast as they can make them.
