Trump resigns from Screen Actors Guild in rant-filled letter after they threatened to expel him
Source: The Independent
The former president said "who cares" to the group's threat, and followed SAG-AFTRA's board voting "overwhelmingly" that Mr Trump violated the union's guidelines by inciting the Capitol insurrection.
Fox News received Mr Trump's letter, which was addressed to the president of SAG-AFTRA.
"I write to you today regarding the so-called Disciplinary Committee hearing aimed at revoking my union membership. Who cares!" Mr Trump wrote in the letter. "While Im not familiar with your work, Im very proud of my work on movies such as Home Alone 2, Zoolander and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps; and television shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Saturday Night Lives, and of course, one of the most successful shows in television history, The Apprenticeto name just a few!"

(35,675 posts)was to gain attention. Michael Goldhaber is the scholar who came up with the concept of the "attention economy," which basically says that in an age of limitless media, the new game is to command attention. That is why you see all those nutcases risking their lives to get a picture of themselves grandstanding on a cliff somewhere.
Here's how trump's brazen, obnoxious insensitivity actually served him well:
Its impossible to understand the rise of Donald Trump and the MAGA wing of the far right or, really, modern American politics without understanding attention hijacking and how it is used to wield power.

Mr. Goldhaber warned of the attention economys destabilizing effects, including how it has disproportionate benefits for the most shameless among us. Our abilities to pay attention are limited. Not so our abilities to receive it, he wrote in the journal First Monday.

(5,128 posts)I was never able to afford to lobby to get in either SAG or EQUITY. I was never able to meet the criteria to get in to either group because it was a 'pay to play' situation. I was a failure as an actor anyway, just as I was in any performing attempt. But to have to watch as someone like that orange child just waltzed into being handed a membership while real actors struggled, tried, and failed to garner a glance from those same groups... well, this was just one of the many episodes that made me the cynical grump I am today. That some idiot could get into the organization that I needed to assure me of proper income protection, as well as getting me to the next level when it came to offers and what should come with those offers, was just part of that last straw that showed me just how unfair, how biased, how idiotic and how crappy Hollywood is, and by extension how crappy society in general is. Sigh.

Favorite (sarcastic) comment from the AVClub article (censored by me): "Sure, you'll make fun of him for this, but you libt@$ds always want to conveniently forget about Shrillary's cameo in Emmanuelle Goes to Dinosaur Land."
EDIT: Hey, maybe he can inspire others to quit! Jon Voight, Kevin Sorbo, James Woods, etc...after all, it wasn't that long ago that Convicted Felon Dinesh D'sousa tweeted that conservative he-men like himself (snerk) were "abandoning liberal Hollywood" to create their own Galt's Gulch version.
