Florida starts 2021 with average of 15,759 coronavirus cases per day
Source: Tampa Bay Times
The Florida Department of Health did not release data on Friday because of the holiday. But on Saturday, it reported 31,518 new cases.
Florida is beginning 2021 the same way it ended 2020: With coronavirus cases surging at a record rate.
The state announced Saturday 31,518 new cases of the coronavirus. The data is a two-day total, because the Florida Department of Health didnt release data on Jan. 1. While the state did not differentiate case numbers by day, the total cases would equate to a daily average of 15,759.
Only one previous day since the start of the pandemic had eclipsed 15,500 cases in a single day: New Years Eve, when the state reported 17,192 cases. The date with the next highest case totals and the only other day to break 15,000 in Florida was on July 12.
Saturdays case total brought Floridas seven-day average of reported cases to 12,892 the highest it has been since the first publicly announced infection in March.

(9,998 posts)But your state got EXACTLY WHAT THEY VOTED FOR.
Florida is not a purple state, it is a F&*ked up Red State, where Democrat's campaign funds go to die.

(9,998 posts)I'm not saying what you're implying, any more than I would say that about Democrats voting in Alabama.
They're still Democrats voting in a state that's generally weighted against them.

(9,998 posts)Sure, it was higher in 2008, but Barack practically won that election in a landslide.
I stand by my statement. It's a Red State, and the fact Drumpf won this time by such a wide margin, proves that out.
I think the Democrats are better served putting money into states that they won't spend a fortune, only to get screwed in the end. How much has been spent on Governor, Senator & Presidential races there, that could have been better utilized elsewhere?

(6,045 posts)...The entire Conservative Propaganda for Profit Industry plays the leading role in why so many people are DELUSIONAL & completely detached from reality! And its by far the #1 reason our country is so divided & tearing itself apart! That disgusting Industry's business model relies on the country being at war with each other!
...It is pathetic!

(15,492 posts)The rule is that while we must support Democrats, we are free to post who we think will win the election. Case in point, Doug Jones. Nearly everyone here said he was unfortunately going to lose.

I'm sorry about your friend's not receiving ballots. Did they vote in person or not at all?

(3,403 posts)The repubs don't accept results, so why should Democrats when they know the results were opposite to what the polls said, by a low margin, but nonetheless it was not in favour of DeSantis.

A 1% increase in daily new cases over 14 days (7 day average Jan 1 vs. 7 day average 2 weeks before), stats might be messed up by holiday season. Before that, it was sharply increasing.
