First on CNN: GSA tells Biden that transition can formally begin

(CNN)The General Services Administration has informed President-elect Joe Biden that the Trump administration is ready to begin the formal transition process, according to a letter from Administrator Emily Murphy sent Monday afternoon and obtained by CNN.
The letter is the first step the administration has taken to acknowledge President Donald Trump's defeat, more than two weeks after Biden was declared the winner in the election.
The letter signals that Murphy will formally sign off on Biden's victory, a normally perfunctory process known as ascertainment. The move will allow the transition to officially begin, permitting current administration agency officials to coordinate with the incoming Biden team, and providing millions in government funding for the transition.
The move toward ascertainment comes after Michigan formally certified its election results on Monday and Georgia certified its razor-thin presidential results on Friday. Pennsylvania is nearing certification of its election results, too.

SUPPOSED TO DO!
This and Michigan Certification has made me very very happy.

(12,388 posts)Her family, friends, even her dog. As the letter was written directly to President elect Biden, I suppose she was under the assumption that he was responsible for these threats. Her unprofessional and politically motivated behavior throughout this process has been deplorable, and so this disgusting communication isnt of any surprise to me. I certainly hope future candidates for this position are better vetted.

The reason she may think Biden was responsible is that - this is how she thinks, being a Trump appointee. This is something his "base" might do.

(16,389 posts)Take a look at this paragraph from her letter (bolding added by me).
"I have dedicated much of my adult life to public service, and I have always strived to do what is
right. Please know that I came to my decision independently, based on the law and available
facts. I was never directly or indirectly pressured by any Executive Branch officialincluding
those who work at the White House or GSAwith regard to the substance or timing of my
decision. To be clear, I did not receive any direction to delay my determination. I did, however,
receive threats online, by phone, and by mail directed at my safety, my family, my staff, and
even my pets in an effort to coerce me into making this determination prematurely. Even in the
face of thousands of threats, I always remained committed to upholding the law.
Seems like she's very concerned about that particular point! Whatever, Emily, whatever. You finally did your job. That's the main thing!

(19,201 posts)as Trump will ever come. At long last Biden gets the funds, and more importantly the access to governmental information, that he'll need to lift this country out of the hole Donald Trump dug for it.
