Trump's $200 drug cards for seniors remain in limbo
Source: Politico
Donald Trump's plan to distribute $200 drug-discount cards to all Medicare recipients remains in limbo after officials missed an earlier goal of sending out millions of announcement letters and even some cards by Election Day, said three officials with knowledge of the plan.
The officials said that there are still unresolved concerns about the legality and logistics of the nearly $8 billion plan, including how it would be financially structured, and that there are no current plans to roll out the program.
"We haven't heard anything in days," said one health official whose team at the Health and Human Services department would be involved in the program.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which would administer the program, did not respond to a request for comment. CMS Administrator Seema Verma had urged staff to finalize the plan before the election, two officials said.

(18,628 posts)The White House has to figure out how to distribute them only to Trump voters.
I suggest he hand them out at his rallies, where they'll need them.

Trump signed an EO last week, allowing him to fire civil workers at will, despite their collective bargaining agreements.
What surprises me is that Trump didn't fire the entire CMMS (because they weren't faithful to him), replace them with his guys and send out the $200 Rx gift cards.
Or maybe he doesn't have enough time to do that before the Election.

(128,979 posts)which would essentially be a violation of the Anti-Deficiency Act and an unauthorized procurement if Congress hadn't specifically authorized such a thing (which is apparently what the delay might be).
It sounds like they are trying to do a Raygun split-screen-inauguration-with-hostages-being-released moment.

(1,933 posts)her name is went to Washington with Pence. Before that she was in his cabinet when he was governor in Indiana. Every bit as crooked as Pence and has been accused of pilfering funds from her department in awarding contracts to pals. Hope Biden gets rid of her.

(50,557 posts)One of the most-advertised meds on MeTV is Jardiance, which treats Type 2 diabetes. With no insurance its $500 per month. My mom had great insurance and it was still about $185 a month...and when we inventoried her meds after she died, it was like the Physicians Desk Reference Greatest Hits list. Were talking 23 different meds on the list. (No, she didnt take all of them at once...if the doctor prescribed something and it didnt work, she just shoved it to the back of her pill drawer. I know she was taking 15 different pills every day.)
So...what, exactly, is $200 going to do for someone with a $1000 monthly drug copay?

(65,042 posts)It was all political nonsense.
The money wasn't actually appropriated, there was no plan, and there was never going to be a distribution.
The logistics excuse is a ruse.
One cannot run into logistical difficultites executing a plan that doesn't exist.
