15-year-old Gwinnett boy dies of COVID-19

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by JudyM (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A 15-year-old Gwinnett County boy with no underlying conditions has died after contracting COVID-19, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The teen’s death was listed on the DPH website during the health department’s daily update on Friday afternoon. He is the youngest person to die of COVID-19 complications in metro Atlanta and the second-youngest to die in Georgia.

The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office did not confirm the death Saturday morning, and there was no information indicating when the teen may have gotten sick or died. A spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Public Health said no additional details are being released.

The teen’s death was one of 35 reported across the state on Friday.

kids are not severely affected by the Covid-19 virus. Dead is about as severe as it gets. People are being misled and confused about this situation. We’ve been told to wear masks, wash our hands and Social distance for 6 months. We are weary and ready for this is to be over. But NOW is not the time to let our guard down. The virus is still with us and will kill some of us and leave others with unknown chronic problems if we survive. Children and adolescents can get it and some will die. Maybe it is a small percentage but are you willing to risk the life of your child or grandchild? Some of the victims had no known underlying conditions. They still got sick and died. Being healthy does not automatically give you protection!

It is ridiculous that we are this far into the pandemic with many people chafing and pushing back, refusing to wear masks and social distance. Public health used to be a thing and when you were quarantined, it meant something. Public Health officers had authority to issue quarantine orders for the good of the community. When did the President of the United States get the authority to countermand orders issued by our public health officials?? Something is really wrong and we are all paying the price for this shift away from reliance on our scientists to keep us safe in medical emergencies.

I’m just tired of all of this and needed to vent. I will wear a mask, Social distance and wash my hands until the cows come home. Oh, and stay home. But damn it gets old when so many are trying to comply while another bunch of assholes are openly defying what they are begging us to do.

and no social distancing. Last weekend, same thing. Different neighbors, even had a food truck at the party 🙄

I'm also sick of being cooped up but it's better than getting sick or getting family sick. We have a niece who is 3 months old now that we haven't gotten to go see yet because this. My grandfather died in April and we couldn't go say goodbye in person because I didn't want to risk getting my grandma sick but these selfish fuckers continue to just do whatever they want at the expense of the rest of us 😠

We likely will not go because it is several hours away and even though they plan an outdoor venue with social distancing, we’d end up having to stay in a hotel. Plus, the moms are turning this into a bigger affair than the bride and groom want so social distancing may be nearly impossible to achieve. It makes me very sad but that is the reality. We are both nearly 72 and have no desire to die a nightmarish death from covid-19.

A lot of times, the person who died is reported as having no underlying health conditions. But when they show a picture, the person is obviously somewhat overweight, lots of times obese. And that in itself can be considered to be an underlying health condition. I wonder if he was overweight or had an undiagnosed condition that caused it to affect him so badly.
