That is the legal jargon anyway.
It looks like the only way to remove him is that he quits or the Senate confirms a replacement, the executive branch cannot replace him without the Senate's approval.
Speaking of which has anyone found Trump's signed order? Did he have the nerve to write "you're fired" on a piece of paper, Barr claimed he did, but no one has seen it. Barr is in trouble.

(2,567 posts)and I feel so numb.
During the days of the Mueller indictments (which seem so innocent in comparison to now), this would have had my adrenaline shooting through the roof. My adrenal glands are now just whimpering, saying, "Make it stop. I have nothing left to offer."
Heather Cox Richardson says it is history-book level news.

(15,124 posts)Barr did it and then said it was Trump's decision.
If this sticks, then Berman can testify at the Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday.

The presidents move deepened a crisis over the independence of law enforcement and the presidents purge of officials he views as disloyal.

President Trump on Saturday personally fired the United States Attorney in Manhattan, Geoffrey S. Berman, whose office has pursued one case after another that has rankled the president and his allies, putting his former personal lawyer in prison and investigating his current one.
..................................
In a statement, Attorney General William P. Barr said Mr. Berman, who had refused to step down from his position on Friday night, had chosen public spectacle over public service.
Because you have declared that you have no intention of resigning, I have asked the President to remove you as of today, and he has done so, the statement read. Mr. Barr said Mr. Bermans top deputy, Audrey Strauss, would become the acting United States Attorney.
A spokesman for the office said Mr. Berman would not immediately comment. The dismissal of Mr. Berman came after his office brought a series of highly sensitive cases that worried and angered Mr. Trump and others in his inner circle.
...............................
These simmering tensions finally erupted Friday night in the most public fashion possible as Mr. Barr suddenly announced that Mr. Berman was stepping down only to discover two hours later that Mr. Berman had made his own announcement: that he was going nowhere..........................

(9,155 posts)The House should immediately begin the impeachment process...(again, even though the election is only 4 & 1/2 months away), because A) it is their job, and B) there is no guarantee that Trump will lose the election.
