Local governments plead for virus aid as congressional GOP refuses to act

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is refusing to help cities and states facing major budget shortfalls due to the coronavirus.
One small-town Oklahoma mayor testified before Congress she's worried the city's 18-bed hospital can't handle a second COVID-19 wave. Many counties are slashing sizable chunks of their government work force. States are staring down red ink as the fiscal year comes to a close.
As local leaders are pleading for more federal aid even before protests over police violence erupted in almost every corner of the country the Senate resumes session Monday with no immediate plans to consider a fresh round of relief. The House's staggering $3 trillion package is mothballed in the Senate, where Republicans are focused instead on trimming unemployment benefits and getting Americans back to work. Quick action by Congress is skidding to a halt.
The standoff is perhaps standard Washington negotiating, but "they're playing a very dangerous game of chicken," said Meredith McGehee, executive director at Issue One, which advocates for government reforms to ease political gridlock.
Congress is confronting mounting crises the virus outbreak, the shattered economy, and now nationwide protests over the killings of black people at the hands of police all crashing into an election year. The House is working remotely rather than risk convening in the pandemic, while the Senate wants to wait and see if nearly $2 trillion in previously approved aid is sufficient while it focuses on Donald Trump's priorities.

I have posted many articles on this matter......................all I have to say to these right wing libertarian POS's is that,.............you assholes passed a 1.5 trillion tax cut and didn't even blink an eye to that scam and leaving a lot of generations holding that collective bag over there heads for generations to come...............but when it comes to "helping" this country you deserted this country in 1981................and as for #Moscow Mitch / Thune and his and other libertarian comments he really can go pound sand..............if my wife and everyone else ( 40 + million) do not have job and she and (40+ million) are going to need some serious help here in the very near term future, then maybe its time that you and others took a fucking pay cut and started collecting unemployment at the same rate she and millions of others are making at your state rate..........
South Dakota unemployment rate prior to Cares ACT..........$352.00 per week
Kentucky unemployment rate prior to the Cares Act................... maximum of $415 each week; the minimum amount is $39....................maybe #Moscow Mitch should be delegated down to $39.00 a week since he doesn't do anything............
I am going to call my democratic representatives and ask them to hold firm on the Hero's Act...........I want the republican party to crumble under there / this BS gambit they are trying to play...................

THE SNAPPING TURTLE THAT ATE AMERICA! Staring, Mitch "Moscow" McConnell.

(23,166 posts)He won't agree to one more dime for any Democratic states until he gets complete immunity from prosecution for companys not protecting their ee from CV19 (even when it's totally egregious), he wants a full get out of jail card or he's willing to let state governments die. Now, this will change the minute there's several red states yelling, all of a sudden it will be so much more important. Damn I hope KY is one of those states just to see how fast he'd switch gears in this election year.

The whole episode of epidemic became persona nongrata in the mass media. The information squelching of the spike in progress is just not talked about. For those of us still isolating, we're wimps and to be scorned.
