'Do it now': Lindsey Graham asks older judges to retire before November -- when GOP could get routed

Source: raw story

Graham needs to lose in Nov. simple as that.

Published 8 mins ago on May 28, 2020

With the 2020 presidential election nearly five months away, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is calling on older conservative judges to retire en masse as his party faces the possibility of getting routed in the fall.

As the Washington Post reports, Graham told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that now is the time for older judges to step down to ensure that they are replaced by Senate Republicans.

The South Carolina senator also warned these judges to not wait too long before making their decisions.

So do it now, he said. I need some time.........................................

5. That is for Supreme Court

Im sure theyll add when the president is different party to the Senate only. You know they are waiting to throw out that gem. Tarnished as it is.

17. No, we need to invoke the "McConnell Rule"...

...where we devise or change any rule we want and just slap a republican's name on it.

It's "McConnell's Rule" that we can do this...

31. McConnell's Rule won't work.

If Dems held the Senate, the rule might be useful. But, R's own the administration and the senate, so they can "fast-track" any judicial appointments.

Apparently, the senate votes for judges can't be blocked by D's. So, for now, McConnell/Trump can do what they please.

32. Well that's the incentive for us to take back both the WH and Senate...

...while we keep (or expand) the House, and then utilize the McConnell Rule as needed.

33. McConnell rule still won't apply. If D's run the WH, House, and Senate, ...

... there will be no reason to stonewall the president's choices for various levels of judge or justice.

Here's hoping.

34. Not so, IM(everso)HO...

...we could then increase/decrease the size of the SC, as needed.

We could make anti-gerrymandering laws.

We could do something about the Electoral College, as needed.

We could do something about voting access, Election Day national holiday, etc. as needed.

We could make a lot of rules/laws that the R's would howl at, and we shall ignore them.

29. Once Trump became president, McConnell said the "Biden Rule" no longer applied.

If a SCOTUS justice seat became available -- even a day before the Biden inaugural -- Trump could fill it. To hell with all this "waiting to find out the will of the American voter" crap.

8. McConnell is RICH and older,

Graham is no spring chicken. Why don't THEY retire, since neither of them is much good for the country, anyway. Graham is like a little Bantam rooster, strutting around, posing as tRump's best buddy.

7. Time to invoke the McConnell Rule

and block all nominees in committee and any other procedural way they can.

Graham knows it's all about to slip away and he's desperate, even though he's safe until 2024.

22. Yeah, you're right

I was looking at the date he became head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Jan 3, 1919.

He's probably planning to go out feet first. Friends in SC report that it's even money now. As the death toll mounts, maybe that will change. Everybody knows Big Dummy bungled everything. They bury enough relatives, they might vote one of his main sycophants out.

The fact remains they can move these nominations through if they really want to.

9. Lindsey Graham is a pathetic and compromised man.

What could have been reviewed by historians as an honorable congressional and senate career will now be seen through the lease of the last 3 years. He will be remembered as a sycophant of Donald Trump. I can think of few things more humiliating.

10. Memo to Lindsey:

1. Not all republican judges are Trumpsters.
2. Not all conservative judges are federalists.
3. Judges are almost immune to political and whim b/c they can't be removed except for VOLUNTARY retirement or impeachment.
4. Maybe the judges like being judges and don't feel like retiring at this moment.
5. If I were a judge with a certain number of years experience in jurisprudence, I would hate the idea of my successor not being qualified and not being approved by the American Bar Association.

13. With any luck even that will be no protection for the corruption they have spread.

When we next are able to have a President, lets start investigating and declassifying EVERYTHING. Expose it all and let the chips fall where they may.

Are the appointments of an illegitimate president or a corrupted legislature even valid? How many of his appointments are genuine conservative idealogues as opposed to corrupt Cons? How long will it take to prove that Kavinaugh lied under oath to get his appointment, and what happens then?

26. His wife's activities are enough reason for his impeachment.

We will need to address all the appointments that were made by a usurper in the White House, aided by a foreign adversary, and enabled by a treasonous republican party.

Every single republican appointment has had the effect of assisting Vladimir Putin in the takeover of our country, and should be impeached for that reason alone. We need to address the BIG PICTURE.

Seriously.

27. I think it will be much easier to deal

with a fresh and provable lie under oath by a candidate installed by a corrupt and possibly illegitimate president.

Plus.. Flip the court liberal, Clear the corruption, and lay a foundation for publicly exposing corruption, and Thomas might just remove himself. One way or another.
