Judge sentences Chris Collins to 26 months in prison

Source: Buffalo News

In a long statement of contrition that was often inaudible because he was sobbing so hard, Collins reiterated his guilt and repeatedly said he was sorry.

"I violated my core values," Collins said after breaking into sobs in court. "I am standing here, probably the last time I will do anything in public. I left Buffalo. I cannot face my constituents."

The sentence marked the end of a stunning downfall for Collins, the first federal lawmaker to endorse Donald Trump for president in 2016 and then a frequently defender of the president.

Trump insiders saw Collins as a possible Cabinet appointee or White House chief of staff – until Collins' arrest on Aug. 8, 2018.

Which tells you how cool Republicans are with fraud:

In August 2016, Collins became the largest shareholder in a company called Innate Immunotherapeutics.[93] In May 2017, House ethics investigators "began probing Collins for his role in recruiting investors to buy stock in Innate Immunotherapeutics after several complaints were filed."[94] Members of Congress are explicitly barred from trading stocks using insider information.[94] In October 2017, the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) said they had "substantial reason" to believe that Collins had improperly used his public office to benefit Innate, and had forwarded nonpublic information to other investors.[95] The OCE said Collins sent nonpublic information to investors about drug trials and that he visited the National Institutes of Health to discuss a drug's clinical trial, violating House ethics rules.[95] The House Ethics Committee did not appoint a subcommittee to continue investigating Collins' case.[96] On August 8, 2018, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filed a complaint in federal court on Collins and two other defendants for "illegal insider trading".[97]

Nate McMurray's a bold and outspoken Democrat who came within 1,087 votes of beating Criminal Collins in 2018. He's never given up, and he's been running since last fall for this seat, predicting Collins' trip to prison.

McMurray's got a campaign structure that's active in every little town, burg, and hamlet in Western New York. The entire Democratic nation can band together to support this single special election this April.

I live in San Francisco; I grew up in Rochester NY, outside of McMurray's district. But I've been so impressed with this guy, ever since he appeared in the Erie County Fair's Demolition Derby. He's gone from long-shot to top dog, but he needs support. New York 27 is Collins / Paladino country, and it'll take some magic to put a Democrat in office. Once McMurray gets in, his action and representation on behalf of his constituents will turn Western New York Blue.

I've adopted McMurray, and I'll be over-promoting him around here 'till election day, April 28th, 2020. Let's Do This!!

He seems like a regular guy and a good Democrat. He almost beat Chris Collins 2 years ago.
