Mulvaney faced White House ouster threat before impeachment crisis took over

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney faced internal efforts to oust him before House Democrats moved ahead with their impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump, multiple sources tell CNN. Top aides including Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner were in the process of reaching out to at least two potential replacements for the top West Wing job shortly before House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced in late September that she would move ahead with an impeachment inquiry.

These previously unreported efforts did not come to fruition, but underscore the weakness of Mulvaney's position even before his headline-generating performance in the briefing room last week. One person familiar with Mulvaney's thinking said the search came as Mulvaney himself was looking for an exit after ten months in the role, though people close to Mulvaney have denied he wanted to leave.

The chief of staff role, traditionally one of the most important in any administration, has been a famously difficult one in the Trump era. All three of his chiefs have tried different governing styles, but the result is nearly always the same: the President ultimately makes the decisions, and eventually undercuts his top deputy.

Mulvaney, who was head of the Office of Management and Budget until he was tapped to succeed former Marine general John Kelly, has never been afforded the formal title, instead serving in an acting capacity, an arrangement both he and Trump have publicly said they prefer. Efforts to replace Mulvaney apparently subsided as the White House was abruptly forced to focus its attention on the escalating impeachment crisis after the release of a whistleblower centered around the President's July 25 call with the Ukrainian President.

So the "Get over it!" was apparently an audition to continue with the job.

He was sure he could say, “Get over it” like using a magic twinkly wand and that we would all just accept it as the inevitable outcome of life as they envision it. With Trump as the the emperor Bubba the Hut and the rest of us groveling at his feet.

Constantly, aides claim they are stressed out. Hell, the jobs at the present administration apparently are from hell itself an yet the so called "Christians" claim otherwise.

Beware of wolf wearing sheep's clothing.

does not appear to be too smart. Perfect for this administration of misfits. Maybe Kushner will out Mick, and take on THAT job, too? I remember Mulvaney stating before tRump was put into the WH, "I would not want my son to have tRump as a role model" Yet, he is perfectly fine to defend the creep? Eventualy we will find out what Putin has over all these people in the WH and the gop. None of them appear to be too ethical or have much integrity.

..about women" yet mulvaney managed to slither into odious racist and traitor's good graces not only as Director of the Office of Management and Budget, as well as acting White House Chief of Staff. Mulvaney is one of many spineless sycophants that have latched onto trump's criminal enterprise that only benefits one person-trump! ( Note:see NYTtimes article and CNN video links.)

"Mick Mulvaney, President Trump’s pick to be acting White House chief of staff, described Mr. Trump in 2016 as a “terrible human being” who had said “disgusting and indefensible” things about women on the infamous “Access Hollywood” recording" [nytimes]

It's one more example of Trump taking power away from Congress, in this case the Senate.
I think a law is needed to require an acting head to be automatically put before the Senate for confirmation after one month if the President doesn't do it.
Regardless of the leadership in the Senate, it's their job to confirm appointments, and an acting head is still the appointed head, and has all the power and authority of one who was actually confirmed by the Senate.

from within the WH? Or maybe, as bulrush suggested, a last ditch effort to win approval from El Trumpo.

His toadies don't seem to profit from being there long term, he clearly doesn't listen to any of them, and will turn on anyone in an instant. Seems like a lot of stress for little return to stick with him, so I don't understand why they lower themselves to such embarassing levels.
