Trump tweets that his Doral golf resort in Miami will no longer host next year’s G-7 summit after criticism

President Trump’s decision to award the Group of Seven summit of world leaders to his own struggling Florida resort brought a flood of pushback from Democrats and members of his own party.

Other U.S. sites will be considered, including Camp David, Trump tweeted.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 10/19/19 10:00 PM EDT

President Trump on Saturday said the United States would no longer host next year's Group of Seven (G-7) summit at his Doral resort after intense backlash from Democrats, ethics watchdogs and some Republican lawmakers.

"Based on both Media & Democrat Crazed and Irrational Hostility, we will no longer consider Trump National Doral, Miami, as the Host Site for the G-7 in 2020," Trump tweeted. "We will begin the search for another site, including the possibility of Camp David, immediately. Thank you!"

8:18 PM - Oct 19, 2019

Trump also highlighted Doral’s proximity to Miami International Airport as a positive, but Chuck Todd and David Fahrenthold pointed to that as a negative on Friday, both of them agreeing it was a security risk for the high-profile event.

“Doral is right on the Miami airport flight paths,” Todd said. “I think one of my reporters told me there’s like 20 different flight paths that are going to have to be diverted.”

“This is such a security nightmare to put it in the middle of a neighborhood where you’re going to have the neighbors coming and going,” Fahrenthold said.

Completely secure and self-contained. Has the amenities to entertain guests and easier to implement the no-fly zone since it happens routinely if the President is there for something. Plus I think this would be happening in June so the weather would probably be more amenable than in Miami when the heat/humidity and the rainy season starts kicking in.

It’s great to have a victory. Nice to see trump reaching for a stack of cash and seeing it fall right through his absurdly tiny hands.

I think international pushback helped turn it around. But l think the upcoming budget votes and the fear of further approval for impeachment were a big part.

The disaster in Syria reminds us we still urgently need more.

Every victory like this helps turn the tide. We should take a moment and feel good. The cowardly money grubbing piece of shit blinked.
