A Trump hotel mystery: Giant reservations followed by empty rooms
Source: Politico
House investigators are looking into an allegation that groups including at least one foreign government tried to ingratiate themselves to President Donald Trump by booking rooms at his hotels but never staying in them.
Its a previously unreported part of a broader examination by the House Oversight Committee, included in the Democrats impeachment inquiry, into whether Trump broke the law by accepting money from U.S. or foreign governments at his properties.
Now were looking at near raw bribery, said Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), a House Oversight Committee member who chairs the subcommittee with jurisdiction over Trumps hotel in Washington. That was the risk from day one foreign governments and others trying to seek favor because we know Trump pays attention to this.... Its an obvious attempt to curry favor with him.
The investigation began after the committee received information that two entities a trade association and a foreign government booked a large quantity of rooms but only used a fraction of them, according to a person familiar with the allegation who isn't authorized to speak for the committee.

(23,738 posts)I'm shocked this isn't getting more scrutiny from investigators, because he's pretty much been doing this in plain sight since day one...

He has hired all the heads of everything that has inspectors and put in his own corrupt minions.
Exactly a page out of the game plan to establish a tyranical government.
Ever read "Animal Farm" by George Orswell? If I had millions of bucks, I would buy and mail a copy to every address in America.
(1984 is too difficult to read and would just be used for TP in the outhouses of his backers who might not even have a third grade education.
There isn't a day that goes by that I watch him and the entire Republican group and could go to a page in Animal Farm for an exact match.
Thx for commenting on this and posting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where have elementary school Social Studies and Government education gone?
Right there with reading.
We were taught speed reading in the 60s because JFK felt it was important in his life.
New and improved.

(81,267 posts)Were seeing deep-down into the way trump has done business all these years. Sketchy at best. Downright criminal at worst.
This is how he did business all these years. And he either bullied, sued, bribed, threatened, delayed, distracted, or swindled his way out every time. And its worked. Well enough to get him out of trouble.
Til now.
Just my opinion here, but I think hes coming unspooled in public, and on camera in the last few days (especially TODAY at that news conference with the Finnish President). And I think its because he feels trapped. He senses the heats really turning up. AND hes starting to realize that his usual tricks arent working anymore. The press is ONTO him. And hes totally knocked off his game.
He doesnt know what to do now. Hell fall back on the insults and the name-calling and the lies. But its not working anymore like his usual bag o tricks does. Probably because, by now, enough of the public has seen enough.

(45,442 posts)that they don't know what to prosecute first?
Maybe after Pelosi impeaches him for Ukraine, they can file criminal charges for emoluments and lock him up for bribery.
What's it going to take to bring him down already?

(10,678 posts)it is so hard to keep up with it all. I have been trying to pay close attention to it but my head is spinning. In the end I think this will all tie together and become much clearer.

(2,312 posts)Those of us who were paying attention may still be slightly overwhelmed by the level of corruption and criminality present in his campaign and his administration.
The rest will be completely gobsmacked by Twitler's audacity and third-rate mafioso tactics, as well as the avalanche of crimes committed by Trump and his associates, both inside and outside the family and the government, on his behalf.
