Two Members of Proud Boys Convicted in Brawl Near Republican Club

Source: New York Times

Since their founding in New York City in 2016, the far-right Proud Boys have cultivated a rough and ready image, often declaring: “We don’t start fights. We finish them.”

But on Monday, jurors in State Supreme Court in Manhattan rejected claims by two members of the group, who had said they had been acting in self-defense last fall on the Upper East Side when they took part in the beating of four people described by the police as anti-fascists connected to a loose-knit group called Antifa.

The two defendants, Maxwell Hare and John Kinsman, were convicted on charges of attempted gang assault, attempted assault and riot for their part in a melee after an appearance by the founder of the Proud Boys at the Metropolitan Republican Club on East 83rd Street.

That brawl mirrored clashes in other cities that had pitted far-right groups, calling for “free speech” or chanting nationalist and racist slogans, against leftists, including Antifa, who have physically confronted those they deem to be fascists or Nazis.

They either outright start fights, like they did here, or they do everything they can to provoke them, and then claim they were acting peacefully when the violent Antifa attacked them.

Unfortunately for them, in this case video emerged that clearly showed the Proud Boys charging the Antifa and then attacking them. Of course this was after weeks of the Proud Boys saying they were attacked by Antifa first.

Never trust a right winger, folks. Lying is embedded in their DNA, just like violence.

....when each of them winds up in a cell with a huge black cellmate?

Life in the exercise yard is going to be tough, too.

First, insinuating that black men are innately predisposed to commit prison rape or violence is perpetuating a racist stereotype.

Don't think it was intentional on your part, just the image television and other servants of the 1% push.

Unfortunately, these bastards will be heroes to the prison nazi groups.

About 20 seconds in, you might recall the guy with the red cap. I believe that he's the person on the left in the DA's tweet. (They almost looked suave in court. J/K)

10 of them were arrested. 7 took plea bargains. 2 were convicted today. I can't figure out what happened to the last one.

Maximum sentence for their convictions is 15 years, because it involves gang charges. How fucked up do you have to be to throw your life away doing something so stupid.

And to the store owner with the camera capturing the street: thank you.

Might end up taking a plea deal after seeing what sentences these two get. Sentencing for some of the 7 who took deals was pretty light (example: 5 days community service).

On Monday, Aug. 19, 2019, the two members of the far-right Proud Boys group were found guilty of charges, including attempted gang assault, for their roles in a violent clash with left-wing protesters following a speech at the Metropolitan Republican Club in New York

NEW YORK (AP) — Two members of the far-right Proud Boys were found guilty of charges including attempted gang assault for their part in a melee that followed a speech at New York's Metropolitan Republican Club.

A jury convicted Maxwell Hare and John Kinsman on Monday in connection with the October 2018 brawl between members of the all-male Proud Boys and the loosely organized anti-fascist group known as Antifa after a speech by Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes. The fight started when a masked protester threw a bottle.

Lawyers for Hare and Kinsman said the men acted in self-defense, but prosecutors said they and other Proud Boys members started the physical fight.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said the defendants beat four people "in a brutal act of political violence."
