ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) At the center of Jeffrey Epstein's secluded New Mexico ranch sits a sprawling residence the financier built decades ago complete with plans for a 4,000-square-foot (372-square-meter) courtyard, a living room roughly the size of the average American home and a nearby private airplane runway.
Known as the Zorro Ranch, the high-desert property is now tied to an investigation that the state attorney general's office says it has opened into Epstein with plans to forward findings to federal authorities in New York.
Epstein, who pleaded not guilty this week to federal sex trafficking charges in New York, has not faced criminal charges in New Mexico. But the scandal surrounding him has still sent a jolt through the rural Southwestern state as it comes under scrutiny for laws that allowed him to avoid registering as a sex offender following a guilty plea a decade ago in Florida.
"New Mexico continues to lag behind the rest of the country in strengthening outdated and weak laws that fail to protect our children from abuse," Balderas said in an emailed statement to The Associated Press. "This is a huge black eye for our state."

Epstein purchased the Zorro Ranch in 1993 from former New Mexico Governor Bruce King. On the 7,500 acre property, he built a 26,700-square-foot mansion. According to Curbed, it was appraised at over $18 million in 2013.
According to a local report, at the time the mansion was built it was double the size of the second-largest home in the county. Epstein told Vanity Fair, that his property in New Mexico made his Manhattan townhouse "look like a shack."

SANTA FE Lawsuit claims about young female sex slaves allegedly kept by billionaire investor Jeffrey Epstein and offered to a worldwide list of the rich and famous have reached New Mexico.
In a new court filing in Florida, plaintiffs lawyers maintain that a woman identified as Jane Doe No. 3, said to have been coerced into Epsteins camp when she was 15 years old, was frequently sexually abused by Epstein not only in West Palm Beach (Fla.), but also in New York, New Mexico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, in international airspace on
Epsteins private planes, and elsewhere.
The same filing also alleges that Jane Doe No. 3 was forced by Epstein to have sex with famous attorney and Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz numerous times, again at locations around the world, including in New Mexico.
Epstein owns or has owned a 26,700-square-foot mansion near Stanley south of Santa Fe on 10,000 acres known as the Zorro Ranch. The court filings dont say where specifically in New Mexico the alleged sexual assaults took place.

MILFORD, CTBemoaning the tremendous loss of time and resources, frustrated executives at the Subway restaurant chain have scrapped a $150 million advertising campaign featuring Jeffrey Epstein, company officials confirmed Tuesday. Goddammit, we were just gearing up to launch Jeffrey Epstein as the new face of Subway, and now all that work has gone down the toilet, said chief brand and innovation officer Len Van Popering, explaining that sex-trafficking charges filed against Epstein yesterday had derailed Subways biggest advertising push in years, which was set to begin with ads introducing the billionaire financier as the brands new spokesperson.

Jeffrey Epstein may have committed crimes in more places than investigators first thought. The wealthy financier was arrested last week, accused of sex trafficking. Prosecutors are now looking beyond Florida and New York to properites in New Mexico and the Carribean
This expansive compound -- reported to be worth $12 million -- nestled in the hills outside Santa Fe features manicured gardens and a nearby private runway.
. . .
A spokesperson for New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas said his office is interviewing multiple people who visited the property near Santa Fe.
Those findings will be sent to federal authorities in New York, where Epstein has pleaded "not guilty" to sex trafficking charges.
"There are plenty of people that ran in his circles who have information. And that's one of the things, if you have information, you observed something, you heard something, come and let us know," said Bradley Edwards, an attorney for Epstein's alleged victims.
. . .
But documents obtained by CBS News show that shortly after purchasing the ranch in 2010, Epstein walked into the sheriff's office in Santa Fe County and told detectives he'd been convicted for "procuring a person under the age of 18 for prostitution in Palm Beach, florida." And that woman "did massages."

(53,410 posts)It lies East of Albuquerque and south of Santa Fe. Stanley only has about 1,000 people in it and is unincorporated. The Zorro Ranch is basically in the middle of nowhere in the high desert. The articles make it sound like Epsteins ranch is much closer to Santa Fe than it is.
