Mr Bolsonaro was due to attend a ceremony in his honour in New York later in May organised by the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce.
Several venues in the city have decided not to host the event.
His spokesman blamed New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and the "pressure of interest groups".

Minorities pass the test, he failed.

(4,066 posts)Interested in protecting human rights and the environment. I'll take them any day over politicians like Bolsonaro. The guy is a loud, proud homophobe. That typically means he's a closeted, self-loathing homo. Just look at all the Christian ministers and politicians who are the loudest homophobes who eventually get out-ed for having sex with other men.

They don't call Bolsonaro the "Trump of the Tropics" for nothing.

(I say this with sadness as I absolutely LOVED Brazil when I visited there many years ago. Rio is a terrific city. And what music!)

(2,809 posts)Had ought to start planning their class action lawsuits and PTSD therapy once the bigoted administration is out. The political atmosphere is bound for change there as well as here after they get done bulldozing the rights of entire demographics.
I certainly would sue the Westboro Baptists for pain, suffering and years of loss they cost me, living on the streets at 16 due to their hateful campaigns.
But it was 1976 they pulled their riot incitement onto me personally, and still no one has taken up the cause of the people they damaged.
Jair Bolsonaro needs to take a long self-reflective gaze into how shameful a historical legacy he's weaving for himself.
