IRS commissioner: No rule against releasing Trump's tax returns while under audit
Source: Axios
IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig confirmed at a House Appropriations Subcommittee on Tuesday that there is "no rule that would prohibit the release of a tax return because it's under audit," in reference to an ongoing effort by House Democrats to obtain President Trump's tax returns.
Driving the news: Trump told reporters on Wednesday, the deadline given by House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal for Trump to release his tax returns, that he will not do so while under audit a defense he has used for the past 3 years. Trump's lawyers sent a letter to the Department of Treasury counsel last week dismissing the request for returns as politically-motivated.

(94,950 posts)A fun fact: post-Watergate, the IRS Commissioner was moved to a fixed term (five years) appointment to immunize against political pressure.

Your faith in that which cannot be supported is righteous, as the absolute pronouncements you criticize others for making.

Trump's IRS nominee didn't disclose properties were at Trump-branded hotel
The revelation about the hotel seems certain to come up when Chuck Rettig testifies before the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday.

President Donald Trumps pick to run the IRS, tax lawyer Chuck Rettig, owns properties at the Trump International Hotel Waikiki and Tower.
Hed previously disclosed his 50 percent stake in a pair of Honolulu rental units, but not their specific location. That detail was discussed later, at a June 21 meeting with congressional staff, according to a memo obtained by POLITICO.
Trump typically gets fees on sales for licensing his name.
The document was circulated Wednesday to Senate Finance Committee members ahead of their hearing on Rettigs nomination, scheduled for Thursday.
The nominee did disclose these properties, but not their location, the memo said of Rettigs original answers to financial disclosure questions that ask nominees to list assets and sources of income that exceed $1,000.
The revelation about the Trump-branded hotel seems certain to come up when Rettig testifies.
Committee staff raised this at the nominees June 21st due diligence meeting, the memo said. The nominee plans to provide more detail on his Committee Questionnaire to include the full name of the property.
......................
Rettig also agreed to revisit the need to provide details on the properties with respect to his ethics agreement, or make any appropriate amendments regarding the properties, the memo said....................................
It also indicated Rettig failed to report interest income or interest expenses related to a personal loan he made to an unnamed family member.
...................................
The funds should have been treated as a loan at that time, with interest income reported and any interest expense deducted, the memo said, and Rettig has agreed to amend his returns............................

(26,349 posts)that states he has been under audit.
It wont help influence the morons that still blindly support him but it might help tap down on their showing up at the polls plus our guys could and should use it against every Repugnant during the upcoming elections as well and tie it around their necks like an anchor.
A taxing agency like the IRS cannot confirm or deny a taxpayer is under audit.
As I understand the testimony of the IRS commissioner is that a taxpayer could voluntarily release ther return even if it is under audit

(14,179 posts)Or if it was made earlier, why wasn't/isn't this big news. Or why isn't/hasn't a reporter confronted him on this, even long before the election?
I'll answer my own question....Probably because Trump runs his administration like a circus, and a constant turmoil, always some new travesty to talk about. That is their plan, throw so much at the wall that the MSM is constantly talking about the one or two a day that sticks. No time for all of them.
