During a speech held by the Jewish Republican Coalition on Saturday, President Donald Trump told audience members that Israels Benjamin Netanyahu is their prime minister a common anti-Semitic trope.
While discussing a meeting he had at the White House with Netanyahu in which he made the controversial decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, Trump told the audience he stood with your prime minister.

(49,034 posts)The anti-Jewish trope is that American Jews are beholden to a foreign power and are traitors. Of course we know that is not true and is racist.
The ironic thing is that the speaker is an American who seems truly to be in the thrall of foreign potentates in Russia, Arabia, and China.

Why am I called anti-Israeli if I don't approve of the pact made between Israel and Saudi Arabia? As far as I'm concerned SA is a terrorist nation just like Iran.

Take time to think about things.
In essence he is saying they are actually foreigners here.

I unfortunately won the shit lotto, as my PM is May (albeit not for long, thank dog) and my POTUS is Trump (hopefully not for long as well.)

I believe Omar was referring to US politicians passing laws to punish American citizens for participating in boycotts of Israel (Marco Rubio, etc.).

(407 posts)I choose to defend neither and call out anti semitism when seen. Omar specifically called out Jewish Democrats, not only Jewish Democratic representatives. Just because tired old racial canards are directed at a limited number of that group does not allow us to dismiss them. Is Omar implying that Jews cannot be trusted to serve in Congress because of them being Jews? Omar is unfairly being targeted because she is a member of multiple minorities. That does not give her a free pass to turn that slander towards members of other minorities.
And, would you have the same reaction if people called out Omar's dual loyalty as a Muslim woman?

On his return we got into a conversation and he said - I'll never forget this- his first love was his religion, second his country -ISRAEL, and third his family. I remember asking him if he considered America his country since he was born and raised in America. No, he assured me , he was a Jew and Israel was his country.

Most Jews in the U.S.A. (of which I am one) think of the U.S.A. as "our country"... But you would have to ask most Jews to find out the truth. Not one owner of a "Hardware Store" who happens to be Jewish.

I ask this because when I got home a week after that incident the majority of members of my congregation decided that Israel was not an ally of America but would even kill Americans to get what they want, the Golan Heights. They did not change their minds in the next 10 years that I knew them.

He is too stupid to say anything about anything. He doesn't even know that he is insulting people that live in the U.S.A. to say their allegiance is to another country.

(53,979 posts)It is things like this which make me angry on so many levels. He basically is asserting Jews are not loyal Americans. I see peoples' ignorance of anti-Semitism in their not understanding why what he said was anti-Semitic; I see people "fired up" about his anti-Semitic remarks of 'dual loyalty' but when certain others do it, well, suddenly it isn't anti-Semitic; I see people falling all over themselves to "condemn" this anti-Semitism, but it all for show and just another stepping stone to move the conversation to their bigotry of choice; I see anti-Semitism, in general, get attention because of who the speaker is and not what it does to the Jewish community.
I also see, though few in number, a certain group willing to always speak out clearly and without reservation against anti-Semitism.
