Khashoggi children have received houses in Saudi Arabia and monthly payments as compensation
Source: Washington Post
The children of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi have received million-dollar houses in the kingdom and monthly five-figure payments as compensation for the killing of their father, according to current and former Saudi officials as well as people close to the family.
Khashoggis two sons and two daughters may also receive much larger payouts possibly tens of millions of dollars apiece as part of blood money negotiations that are expected to ensue when the trials of Khashoggis accused killers are completed in the coming months, according to the officials and others who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive talks.
The previously undisclosed payments are part of an effort by Saudi Arabia to reach a long-term arrangement with Khashoggi family members, aimed in part at ensuring that they continue to show restraint in their public statements about the killing of their father by Saudi operatives in Istanbul six months ago, the officials said.
The Khashoggi siblings have refrained from any harsh criticism of the kingdom, even as their fathers death provoked global outrage and widespread condemnation of the heir to the Saudi throne, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Such support is part of our custom and culture, the official said. It is not attached to anything else.
Part of your custom and culture? Yeah, right just like it is their custom and culture to take a bone saw to a member of the press that disagrees with them. Murderous bastards.

(16,818 posts)These children will eventually hear how their father was horrifically murdered. There is no justice in Saudi Arabia. When will the U.S. treat them like what they are? 9-11 terrorists? Bush mouth kissing Prince "Bandar Bush" in fealty? Remember that?

(50,601 posts)...but if Khashoggi's kids weren't Muslim, and the killers were, this is the only thing Saudi law allows.
In Saudi Arabia, it is no crime for a Muslim to kill. It is only a civil matter.
According to the Quran, when a Muslim kills another Muslim, three options are open to the victim's family: qisas, diyya and forgiveness.
Qisas means "equal retribution." This is where they take you to Deera Square and behead you with a sword.
Diyya literally means "blood money." A court decides how much money it'll cost you to buy your way out of this. The victim's family is allowed to either accept Diyya, or reject it. If they reject it, you get Qisas.
Forgiveness is kinda like Diyya, but it is only allowed in cases of accidental death. The victim's family and the perpetrator are allowed to decide on the proper amount of money to be paid.
If the victim was not a Muslim, Qisas is not an option. Only Diyya is.
On the other hand, if the murderer was not a Muslim, only Qisas is allowed.

Salah, who has been responsible for financial discussions with Saudi authorities, declined to comment on the matter when reached by phone Monday. His desire to remain in Jiddah with his family has contributed to the siblings deference to the authorities and caution in their public statements over the past six months.
