It's not a parliamentary system where you vote for the party and the party appoints the officers.
I'd stay in. If he quits, he's radioactive. If he stays, given his record, he could still be rehabilitated in a year and not just be headed for the knacker.

I was especially touched by Holder's statement, which got to the core of the issue, while recognizing Northam as a man rather than as a Campaign Talking Point:
I think that Perez has been doing an excellent job as DNC chair. He's one of the best I've seen in a long while.

(15,294 posts)because if or when Northam steps aside, the full attention of GOP oppo researchers, dirty tricksters and rw media will turn to digging up dirt and flinging it on Justin Fairfax.
Line of succession in Virginia is Lt Gov (current D), State Atty Gen'l (current D), Speaker of the House of Delegates (current R).

(21,270 posts)I hope he doesnt resign. I am not happy to see that picture but wondering Corey Stewart that exposed it. Im glad Northam is pushing back. But the people of a Virginia need to make the final decision. If they are so mad then if Virginia has the option then recall him.

Like it or not, this is the age of increasingly sophisticated disinformation psy-ops.
Theres got to be a better way of sorting out this kind of thing than squabbling about it over the internet, and then taking a bunch of polls.
Don't lose sight of the fact that the purpose of disinformation is to not only get lies to be established as fact, but also to sow discord, distrust, suspicion, chaos so as to undermine the democratic process and get us all feeling hopeless and disempowered ("whats the use, theyre all bad" .
This current situation is just kind of bizarre - now hes claiming its not him in the pic after initially saying it was?? Either the gov is attempting some Trump/Kavanaugh-style mind games, or there really is some funny business afoot.
My hunch is that the Republican-Russian colluders have this type of info on a lot of people, but choose strategic moments to drop the bombshells. We know that they are actively working on undermining the Mueller investigation, and we know this certaintly distracted us from that.

Both Kaine and Warner were also once governors of Virginia, too. I also remember Kaine especially as someone who was once a strong supporter of Northam in the last election. If he's lost them, he's completely toast.
No matter what the full history of the photos, and even if they could be proven to bear no relevance to who he is today, the bottom line is simply this: he cannot govern. And he will drag the fortunes of the Virginia Democratic party down with him if he chooses to try to cling to power.
I hope he will resign soon.
