Exclusive: Trump plans shutdown compromise
Source: Axios
President Trump plans to use remarks from the Diplomatic Reception Room on Saturday afternoon to propose a notable immigration compromise, according to sources familiar with the speech.
The offer is expected to include Trump's $5.7 billion demand for wall money in exchange for the BRIDGE Act -- which would extend protections for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) -- and also legislation to extend the legal status of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, according to a source with direct knowledge.

Jared Kushner and Mike Pence have led the crafting of this deal and the negotiations with members, according to White House officials.
Even some top Republicans are skeptical Trump's overture will be enough to break the logjam.

Reinstatement of DREAMers/DACA for at least ten years.

(42,714 posts)to cover the $5.7 billion (and provide an additional $10 billion to offset Trump's cutbacks to agencies like the EPA), and maybe, just maybe, I'd consider supporting it.

(12,344 posts)Open government first too. Then negotiate particulars. DACA should be automatic too. No wiggle room. Any paperwork showing your parents brought you to the US prior to your 18th birthday and your in.

(17,931 posts)Compromises. Or shitler just ignoring it. Neither here nor there. Pelosi has told shitler to take his warmed over shit they've already rejected days ago and shove it up his tiny little ass. No fucking wall. No fucking way. No fucking how. It's the stated position of our government never to bargain with terrorists and I think we should stick to that.
Cold War Spook
(1,279 posts)Slight change in his terms for immigrants. Trump gets the $5 billion for the wall and all immigrants in the US right now are given their citizenship if they want it. That would clear up all the illegal immigrant court cases going on and the 1 million backlog.

(12,555 posts)If we had stayed on the course Jimmy Carter put us on with solar, we'd be SO far ahead of the rest of the world right now. And the technology would be so much further along as well.
If that was actually put forth and th Dems STILL rejected, I think public opinion would swing the other way.
But I doubt he'll put forth ANY of the 3.

All this is great for Putin. trump may be watching his polls decline, [people talk of shutdown hardships, etc., etc.].
trump may hedge here and there, but - Putin is the key. Massive breakdowns are great for Putin. Putin's shutdown of the government of the United States - great accomplishment.

(22,133 posts)democratic leaders have pushed, then maybe. On the other side of the fence, we can wait and pass laws to fix ourselves once we're in control also of the Senate and the presidency.
BUT none of us (democrats AND other Americans) trust rump, not one bit. He's lied so much, he doesn't deserve anything. In short, rump's up to something, and I feel it in my bones.
He's already pulled the rug out once before because of his stupid wall and refused to sign legislation that both houses of the Congress approved, you think he would have said something before the bill went up to his desk for signature, but no, rump screwed up apparently because Rush and Ann C. didn't like it and started ranting and raving. Obviously he's got to listen to them, they are so much better at making law than he is.
I don't trust rump, I think that he's a big fat ass baby, that he's a pathetic loser and I want Mueller to hurry up and finish his work because I'm getting sick and tired of the back and forth drama and waiting around for his final report. Mueller is aware of the drama obviously since he spoke out yesterday briefly about one media's reporting.

(4,642 posts)and Dems wouldn't go for it and rightly so. They may do a smaller package, say 1.5 bil. for the wall

if he doesn't run or is defeated in 2020. If Dems could take the Senate and White House we could overturn the bill.

(3,256 posts)There are interstate and international agreements on water use and flooding problems. The environmental studies could take years, let alone the engineering problems. The parts that don't have a wall are mosly the Rio Grande. It's probably impossible to build any kind of barrier that doesn't affect drainage or cause flooding problems. The terrain is really rugged with stiff slopes, etc.

If this report is accurate.
Didn't they use this one once before? Something from McConnell about a DACA vote which we're still waiting for?
I'll be watching all of the Democrats closely on this non-offer offer.

(24,396 posts)Compromise means both sides give up something. He won't give up his fucking wall. He'll just keep throwing in unrelated issues that should be considered on their own merit as sweeteners to get his fucking wall money. He's a fucking baby.
There is NO reason for Ds to move off their position to fund the government based on the bills already passed in the House. Those bills are based on another deal that tRump made with the Senate Rs in 2018, a deal he reneged on because he spinelessly allows ann coulter to dictate his actions.

(4,066 posts)Do not negotiate with hostage takers.
We can wait him on DACA. Then he and Stephen Miller will be gone. We don't need to give in to get something we could've already had were it not for Stephen Miller.

(1,397 posts)And today Trump offers to extend DACA protections in exchange for THE WALL?
Say what?
The Dreamers are protected for the next eight months unless the S.C. changes its mind, which seems unlikely.
And a whole lot of shit can (and hopefully will) change in those eight months.
Unless he offers citizenship for Dreamers NOW, I say no deal.
Furthermore, I detest the thought of a wall. For a good read about the way the government handled eminent domain back in 2007, read this:
https://www.texastribune.org/2017/12/14/border-land-grab-government-abused-power-seize-property-fence/
Its a fairly long piece, but well researched, well written, and will make your blood boil.

(3,283 posts)This boils down to a matter of perception. That's all tRump is in this for. He wants a win. The headlines are already written that the Dems caved if they give him one penny more, even if it is not really the truth.

(261 posts)5.7 billion isnt actually going to build the wall he campaigned on. When I heard about people in tears over having to go to a food bank, I realized we really cant wait for people to die in air disasters or from food poisoning on top of it. I know many of the Dreamers dont want to be used as hostages, but theres so much more than principal at stake. Lets get on with investigating these criminals.
