GOFundMe Page For Donald TRump's Border Wall Raises More Than $900k in 3 Days
Source: Newsweek
A Florida Air Force veterans GoFundMe page has raised more than $900,000 for President Donald Trumps border wall over the past three daysand the figure is rapidly rising.
The campaign titled We The People Will Fund The Wall was created on Sunday by Purple Heart Recipient and triple amputee veteran Brian Kolfage, 37. It has since raised $906,005 of its $1 billion goal from 14,698 donors at the time this article was published.
... snip...
If the campaign doesnt come significantly close to reaching its $1 billion goal, it pledges to refund donors all money contributed. If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall. That equates to roughly 5 billion dollars, even if we get half, that's half the wall. We can do this, the campaigns description said. The government has accepted large private donations before, most recently a billionaire donated $7.5 Million to fund half of the Washington Monument repairs in 2012; this is no different.
... snip...
The campaign also claims to have been in contact with the Trump administration to secure a point of contact where all funds will go upon completion and said it is working with a legal firm to ensure the government uses the money only for constructing the wall.

(14,573 posts)Sad that these people have made immigration such a huge issue. Because it isn't. Racism is behind it. A bunch of white people saying anyone who looks different doesn't belong here. But the reality? It is little more than a molehill in the great mountain range of public policy.

Trumpsters should cash out their retirement funds and kids' college funds to pay for this wall. Sell the house and downsize.
Maybe this is all part of the plan to gently inspire Mexico to pay for the wall.

And I'm sure those who donated to the Trump Foundation were given a "secure a point of contact where all funds will go".
I believe this jerk is sincere but he's a fool if he thinks Trump isn't already working on way to get his hands on this money.

I am a decent writer and it would not be hard to create a go fund me account with lots of hyperbolic language about the wall while making no real promises. A cool extra million or so would advance my retirement by at least 7 years.
Maybe promise to use the money to advance the cause of real patriotic Americans and then send letters of support to our Democratic representatives. And of course for my efforts pay myself a reasonable 1 million or so.
This has real potential.

I don't have to tell them that his son is his contractor do I? He can keep all the money. Do I even have to tell them who this veteran is do I? His grandson next door lost his house. The insurance company gave him $60,000 to trash the old house and build a new house. All written statements are true.

(13,595 posts)Putting aside the fact that funding such a thing through private donations is illegal, this is just some bloke who is cashing in on those foolish to think otherwise. There's no promise that the money will go anywhere (besides the GFM guy's pocket.) There's no escrow or trust account, no promise of getting it back once they realize it's a fraud. I'm not surprised that GFM allowed this as they seem to foster such scams because they skim their take right off the top.
