Jared Polis becomes first openly gay person elected governor in America
Source: Vox
Jared Polis has won the Colorado governors race, becoming the first openly gay person to be elected governor in America.
Polis, a Democrat who has served in the House of Representatives since 2009, did not attempt to hide his sexual orientation on the campaign trail, and sometimes used it to emphasize the contrast between himself and President Donald Trumps administration.
But Polis is the first openly gay candidate to be elected for governor.
Polis ran on a fairly progressive platform. He vowed to fight for Medicare-for-all. He also backed stronger gun laws, investments in renewable energy, repeal of the death penalty, universal full-day preschool and kindergarten as an extension of Colorados public schools, and expanded broadband access.
Polis defeats Republican State Treaurer Walker Stapleton, whose mishandling of the "Great Colorado Payback" - an unclaimed asset fund - became a liability.

(7,220 posts)That assertion is based on personal experience. If you don't agree, ask yourself if you know anyone over 21 who's openly bisexual. There's a reason your answer is likely "no one"; it's because of derision from both sides. If you do know anyone, ask yourself what people say about that person. Likely it's something discriminatory or derogatory.
However, if you're very young it's considered "cool" to be bi, so much so that many girls especially call themselves that just for attention. I base this assertion on observations of my teenage daughter and her friends.

(21,795 posts)That's historic as well - and very well deserved.
His opponent started an asset reclamention fund designed to reunite heirs and others with lost and unclaimed assets.
When said beneficiaries showed up, there was almost never anything there - and why?
Stapleton used it to pay for campaign ads (and probably some Duncan Hunter-style embezzlement).
The right man definitely won in Colorado.
for Polis.
