'Danger to the community' is over after police kill teen accused of gunning down officer

Source: WSB TV

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga - Gwinnett County’s police chief confirmed that “the danger to the community is over” after officers shot and killed the teenager who they said opened fired on one of their own Saturday, killing the officer.

Sources confirmed to Channel 2 Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Tony Thomas on Monday morning that police had located Tafahree Maynard, who was wanted in the killing of Officer Antwan Toney. Shortly after, they confirmed Maynard was dead.

Throughout the weekend, police received tips to Maynard’s whereabouts, but it wasn’t until early Monday morning that investigators said a credible tip led them to a neighborhood off of Hewett Road.

Gwinnett County Police Chief Butch Ayers said in a news conference Monday afternoon, that two police officer were led to wooden shed behind a home.
"The officers opened up the door and immediately saw someone inside," Ayers said, with officers confirming Maynard was the man inside. "Mr. Maynard was issued verbal commands. He failed to comply with those commands."

1. He 'failed to comply' you see, so we really had no choice but to commit an extra-judicial murder ...

Lemme guess ... re:the alleged perpetrator ... were they a Person of Color, by some some odd and strange chance?

It doesn't matter to murderous monsters that it's illegal and totally immoral.

The Right Wing expression of restraint and a merciful death. Extra-judicial yes,.. but with a token of mercy and public good.

I have a couple of friends who are cops and with a suspected killer you can't
take any chances and when a police officer tells you, "let me see your hands"
and you don't do it then you die.

Officer Antwan Toney is the victim here not Mr. Maynard.

I know this might not be DU/liberal friendly but being a cop is a dangerous job.

8. You are correct on both points. The officer didnt even have a chance; shot approaching the car.

While there are definitely bad incidents, it hurts to lump ALL incidents together. I.E. Michael Brown, who was shot attacking a cop (according to the Justice Dept, headed by Eric Holder, and did NOT have his hands up yelling "don't shoot&quot and Eric Garner, who was strangled for no reason.

How many videos have we seen where "let me see your hands" is said repeatedly and they DONT SHOW THEIR HANDS.

9. Well, maybe they asked, and maybe they didn't ... hopefully we find out for sure ...

Maybe they could've shot a tear gas canister into into the shed from a safe distance ... Or maybe they could've used a robot to investigate. Or maybe police should have sedative gas canisters for situations of this nature. Or maybe a couple taser shots coming from multiple angles would've been more appropriate.

There's all kinds of ways to avoid just blowing people away ... that we suspect of crimes, that may or may not do exactly what they were asked ... to the satisfaction of a bunch of cops with guns drawn, fearing for their lives, and believing that THEIR LIVES ... are inherently more important than whomever they're pointing their guns ... at.

1) He was hiding in a shed.

2) They had already hit him w/a taser

3) They ordered him to show his hands which he didn't

4) He had some kind of weapon in his hands and he didn't drop it.

5) He got shot.

BTW If you shoot a cop and law enforcement comes looking for you odds are good that
not unless you do exactly what they say for you to do and do it exactly when they say it
then they will shoot you.

God I hope Trump doesn't go to the officer's funeral.

If all that is true, then it seems fairly reasonable they blew the dude away.

search for the perp, if that person moves wrong he's going to get shot. Like the civilians in two separate pickup trucks matching the description of the killer in a manhunt in 2013. I think this was the same case that sent the actual perp up in flames when he was holed up, presumably from a tear gas cannister.

You've already made the assumption that the suspect was the shooter. I have no idea what "some kind of weapon" means but if that's the preliminary report, I'll wait for more info, thanks. Unfortunately the suspect is dead. I have no reason yet to doubt that he was the shooter, but so many of these end without a trial, don't they?

However, there are times when the cop(s) had body cams and they either "didn't work" or weren't turned on during the excitement and adrenaline rush.
