Dina Powell drops out of consideration for U.N. ambassador
Source: CBS News
Dina Powell, a Goldman Sachs executive and former deputy national security adviser to President Trump, asked that her name be removed from consideration to replace U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley Thursday morning.
Powell was considered to be one of Mr. Trump's top choices for the post, which will be vacated by Haley at the end of the year. According to CBS News' Major Garrett, Mr. Trump agreed to the request.
"Dina is certainly a person I would consider and she's under consideration," Mr. Trump told reporters Tuesday. However, some in Mr. Trump's orbit have opposed Powell as a contender, due to her time working for the Bush administration.
Mr. Trump also said that his daughter, Ivanka, would be "dynamite" as the new U.N. ambassador. However, Ivanka Trump withdrew herself from consideration via Twitter.

It's telling who Spanky is considering to fill this strategic position, NOT someone with years of diplomatic or government experience, but a financial executive.

(14,966 posts)be there when some pending shoe dropped. And Powell wants no part of it either.
What is it? I don't know, I could only give half a dozen informed-by-publicly-available-news guesses. But Haley does, and Powell has at minimum a vague notion.
Haley is a cynical opportunist. She's leaving because leaving is the self-interested strategy in this moment. Absent an obvious opportunity that she's jumping INTO, we must conclude she is jumping OUT OF a perilous-for-her-future-career situation.

Nobodysave, maybe, Katie Walshlooks good in Fire and Fury. But its depiction of the women of Trumpland showcases the indignities theyve endured.

Wolff devotes a fair amount of ink to now-departed-former deputy national security advisor Dina Powell, who Ivanka convinced to join the administration as a counterweight to Kellyanne Conway. Ivanka doesnt like Kellyanne; Ivanka likes Dina. Dina was a well-bred climber who thought she could parlay her White House post into something like Sheryl Sandbergs Facebook role. She and Ivanka had a mutually codependent relationship where Ivanka counted on Dinas actual expertise in the things Ivanka pretended to be good at, like managing people, and Dina used Ivanka to stay on the presidents good side.

One might take note that with all the departures that have gone on there, it's pretty amazing to think about who is actually left (other than the personal family). Yup, the nutcracker queen herself, Kellyanne Conway.
Much ado has been made of Manafort and Lewandowski but Conway was the one who actually took him all the way to the finish line and it boggles the mind why the media hasn't really delved deep into her and why she is still there.
