LePage joins court brief asking to make discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identit

Source: Portland Press Herald

Maine Gov. Paul LePage has joined 15 other states in asking the U.S. Supreme Court to rule that companies can fire workers based on their sexual orientation and gender identity without violating federal workplace discrimination law.

In an Aug. 23 amicus curiae – or friend of the court – brief filed with the Supreme Court, LePage is listed as one of 16 petitioners, who include 13 Republican attorneys general and two other Republican governors.

According to court records, the brief was filed by Attorney General Douglas J. Peterson and Chief Deputy Attorney General David Bydalek, both of Nebraska. They ask the Supreme Court to overturn a 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision against a Michigan funeral home that fired a transgender worker. In that case, the worker had informed a supervisor that the worker was transitioning to becoming a woman.

Peterson and Bydalek called on the court to “grant the petition and hear this case of national importance.”

and they've never shied away from using force to further their ends.....swords, legislation, court orders, whatever it takes. Seems monotheistic religions have a lot in common in that respect.

That is an insult to those of us who are Christians. You are talking about evangelical christians who do not follow the teaching of Christ.

It's an anti-growth policy. These people will have reduced income and won't consume. I'm not understanding their end game. Why do this? To what end?

We need immigrants, if just for selfish economic reasons. It's simple demographics. White American isn't reproducing nearly fast enough to meet demand.

People who are gay or transgendered need to eat and have a roof over their heads, just like everyone else. Why should the government encourage bigotry that affects people's ability to provide for themselves?

Don’t forget Susan Collins endorsed LePage

"I stopped here to show I support Paul for governor," Collins said. "I'm going to do all I can for him." Before she departed the meeting with LePage to tour Backyard Farms in Madison, Collins said she considers LePage a "very strong candidate" who has the "right message for the people of Maine."

Collins cited LePage's pledge to create jobs, make the state more "business-friendly," and reduce government spending.

"Those are exactly the right priorities," Collins said. "People are eager to have a strong leader at a critical time for the state of Maine. Paul's the leader who can get us back on track."

How small does a person have to be that they feel the need to enshrine hate into law?

This is simply a flash point used by the gop to hype their voters...who's going to be next, eh? Football players, strong women, transgender folks, other religious groups not in rump's circle, etc. You name it, there is a whole mess of players who the gop will go after, simply to placate their voters.

They can't truly come up w/ any valid issues so they run home to their list of who to hate at the moment...remember, all of the folks that they are hating on are Americans too.

Pathetic that this is all they can do...rant and rave about basically nothing but hate.
