Cuomo signs executive order to protect women's reproductive rights

Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered insurers in New York on Monday to cover over-the-counter emergency contraception for women — better known as Plan B.

“I’m going to sign an Executive Order today that protects a woman’s right to choose, protects a woman’s right to contraceptive care,” Cuomo said of the order. “No insurance company can deny it. No bureaucracy can deny it and no federal agency can deny it.”

The order came just hours before President Trump was going to name his nominee to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, making abortion rights activists uneasy that Roe v. Wade might be challenged.

“The power of the Supreme Court is absolute. And (Trump) knows this and he has been using it,”
