Trump Attacks Judge's 'Very Unfair' Decision To Jail Manafort Before Trial

President Trump decried on Twitter the tough sentence handed down to Paul Manafort Friday an apparent reference to a judges decision to put the former Trump campaign chairman in jail pending his trial.

Manafort was not sentenced, as Trump suggested. Rather, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jacksona revoked Manaforts bail after he was accused of tampering with witnesses in the case against him. Manafort was taken into custody immediately after the judges decision a development some observers believe will increase the pressure on him to cooperate in special counsel Robert Muellers investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and of related matters.
Already, Mueller has secured the cooperation of Manaforts top business deputy Rick Gates, who also served on Trumps campaign and was associated with Trumps inner circle well after Manafort left the campaign. Former National Security Advisor Mike Flynn is also cooperating with Muellers investigation after pleading guilty, while Trumps longtime fixer Michael Cohen is reportedly considering cooperation with a separate federal investigation in Manhattan.
Trumps tweet also comes after hes issued a series of high-profile pardons, some for prosecutions hes claimed were unfair. He used similar language when announcing his pardon of conservative activist Dinseh DSouza, who pleaded guilty to violating federal campaign finance laws in 2014, as well as for Vice President Dick Cheneys aide Scooter Libby, who was convicted of perjury in 2007 as part of special prosecutor investigation into the Valerie Plame leak.

Trump suggested officers allow suspects' heads to hit the doors of police vehicles after they are placed under arrest.
"When you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddywagon, you just see them thrown in, rough, I said, Please don't be too nice," Trump told an audience of law enforcement officers and crime victims families.
Like when you guys put somebody in the car and youre protecting their head, you know, the way you put their hand over? the president continued. Like, dont hit their head and theyve just killed somebody. Dont hit their head? I said, You can take the hand away, OK?
Trumps comments drew laughter and applause from many of the officers standing behind him on stage.
