Retired English teacher corrects letter from Trump and sends it back to White House
Source: The HILL
A retired high school English teacher says a letter she received from President Trump would have barely earned passing marks, so she corrected the letter and sent it back to the White House.
Yvonne Mason, an Atlanta resident who retired last year after teaching middle and high school students in South Carolina for 17 years, corrected grammatical mistakes in the letter bearing Trump's signature, including 11 instances of improper capitalization of words like "president" and "state."
"If it had been written in middle school, I'd give it a C or C-plus," Mason told South Carolina's Greenville News. "If it had been written in high school, I'd give it a D."
She did not attach a letter grade to the letter she sent back to the White House.

(51,591 posts)I read it and agreed with what she wrote as corrections in her editing. When I saw this post and then her photo I was surprised it was written by a woman. I have looked at a lot of writing over the years from adults and students and I thought the writing was that of a man, not a woman. It is scratchy and printed rather than smooth and slightly cursive. Usually men write in this style.

(16,804 posts)Would have been early 80s? Was sitting in a hospital waiting room reading the local rag...a story was about how some teachers had sent a letter to the school board. My former teacher was it seemed, a member od that school board. She corrected it, graded it, and sent it back. As a former student I could so see her doing that... nobody messed with Ms jungton.

(188 posts)While I enjoy thinking that the teacher's wonderful corrective letter was leaked by someone in the White House, it nonetheless occurs to me that maybe she went to the press herself. It's not clear to me from the article. Either way, I salute the lady!

(5,611 posts)hardly some piece of confidential/personal communication. Who cares if she contacted the press? What is pertinent is that neither Trump nor his people can write grammatically correct sentences.

(55,445 posts)I did that with the memos of a really awful boss once (she wrote on a 9th-10th grade level) but I never, ever dared give them to her... And she was a Ph.D too, believe it or not...
She tried to poison the environment so I'd quit and when I didn't quit she manufactured a sloppy, half-assed case to get me fired for cause, but by the end of the week she was the one who got fired!
But that's a story for another thread

(37,748 posts)Half-expecting her to be labeled as a 'grammar-nazi' (sic) by people who know nothing about either.
