Poll suggests GOP lawmakers in New Jersey could be wiped out in November

Source: The Hill

BY LUIS SANCHEZ - 04/16/18 01:11 PM EDT

Every Republican House member from New Jersey is in danger of losing their seat in this year’s midterm election, according to a new Monmouth University poll.

The survey released on Monday finds Democrats with a 19-point advantage statewide on the generic ballot, with 54 percent of respondents saying they plan to or are leaning toward voting for Democrats, compared to only 34 percent for Republicans.

Monmouth pollers say this puts all five of New Jersey's GOP-held seats at risk.

“This is pretty astounding. Not only are New Jersey Democrats doing better on the generic House ballot statewide, but the shift is coming almost entirely from districts currently held by the GOP,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute. “If these results hold, we could be down to just one or two — or maybe even zero — Republican members in the state congressional delegation after November.”

1. Good

This is the only way to deal with them. We took all power away from Republicans in California, and we're doing just fine. I believe we're not the only state.

3. Methinks you mean: GOTV like you're behind in the polls.

The other side may outspend you, but never let them out-work you.

We must bust ours. . .to kick theirs.

8. Make New Jersey America Again

but also remember those GOP poll numbers have been sunk by the weight of Chris Christie's toxic stonewalling

9. A sweep is, alas, too much to hope for

We're helped by a couple retirements. Frelinghuysen and LoBiondo would have been favorites to be re-elected, but they both decided to head for the hills. Those open seats are now prime pickup opportunities. We also have a real chance of beating two other incumbents, Lance and MacArthur.

Still, the 4th District will be a very tough nut to crack. It went for Trump by 56-41. Long-time Republican incumbent Chris Smith was re-elected by 63-33, and he's running again.

The DCCC should probably target the four districts where we have a more realistic shot, and not waste money trying for an unlikely shutout. Flipping four seats would be a fine New Jersey contribution to the 23 we need for a majority.

21. Still, a 4 seat pickup in one state

combined with a less gerrymandered Pennsylvania, meaning another Democratic pickup of 2-4 seats there, and Democrats are 6-8 seats closer to voting on the next speaker of the house.

and, they may be able to add more seats in California and New York as well.

12. I am hoping to send Leonard Lance ( NJ-7) into early retirement

There was congressman named Lance
who never took a stance
He slithered and hid
and sold his vote to highest bid
So on his political grave I will dance

14. BOOM! Great news so far! Hope to dup everywhere else too! E.g., in MO ...

where our wonderful repug governor is under investigation by a repug-controlled legislature for blackmailing / threating a female worker. Repugs are desperate to retain their majorities as one might surmise. Won't work.

I was born and raised in Texas, but I think I started forming my escape plan to the Northeast when I was about 12 years old. Wild horses couldn't drag me back there.

20. How is the ballot access law going?

Christie vetoed the last ballot access bill that would require candidates to file tax returns.

All democratic candidates need to support these laws

26. I hope they are wiped out for generations to come.

We need a supermajority +2 to fix this mess. The +2 is necessary to overrule the inevitable Lieberman in the mix.
