Poll suggests GOP lawmakers in New Jersey could be wiped out in November

Every Republican House member from New Jersey is in danger of losing their seat in this years midterm election, according to a new Monmouth University poll.
The survey released on Monday finds Democrats with a 19-point advantage statewide on the generic ballot, with 54 percent of respondents saying they plan to or are leaning toward voting for Democrats, compared to only 34 percent for Republicans.
Monmouth pollers say this puts all five of New Jersey's GOP-held seats at risk.
This is pretty astounding. Not only are New Jersey Democrats doing better on the generic House ballot statewide, but the shift is coming almost entirely from districts currently held by the GOP, said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute. If these results hold, we could be down to just one or two or maybe even zero Republican members in the state congressional delegation after November.

(46,039 posts)This is the only way to deal with them. We took all power away from Republicans in California, and we're doing just fine. I believe we're not the only state.

We must bust ours. . .to kick theirs.

(11,175 posts)We're helped by a couple retirements. Frelinghuysen and LoBiondo would have been favorites to be re-elected, but they both decided to head for the hills. Those open seats are now prime pickup opportunities. We also have a real chance of beating two other incumbents, Lance and MacArthur.
Still, the 4th District will be a very tough nut to crack. It went for Trump by 56-41. Long-time Republican incumbent Chris Smith was re-elected by 63-33, and he's running again.
The DCCC should probably target the four districts where we have a more realistic shot, and not waste money trying for an unlikely shutout. Flipping four seats would be a fine New Jersey contribution to the 23 we need for a majority.

(56,828 posts)combined with a less gerrymandered Pennsylvania, meaning another Democratic pickup of 2-4 seats there, and Democrats are 6-8 seats closer to voting on the next speaker of the house.
and, they may be able to add more seats in California and New York as well.
