Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) defended Special Counsel Robert Mueller's referral to federal prosecutors, which partly led to raids on President Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen's office and hotel room last week.
I dont know what Mueller was supposed to do other than what he did. When a prosecutor comes in contact with information or evidence of a crime, what are you supposed to do, other than refer to the appropriate jurisdiction?" Gowdy told Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday."
Now if Mueller had kept something tangential or unrelated to himself, then Id say fine you can criticize him but he came into contact with potential criminality. He referred it to the U.S. attorneys office of jurisdiction, and he did so with the permission of Rod Rosenstein," he continued.
The referral and subsequent raid on Cohen sparked a strong reaction from the president, who publicly floated firing Mueller after hearing about the raids last week.

(10,252 posts)Everyone makes mistakes, collassal mistakes, embarrassing mistakes, stupid mistakes - all kinds of mistakes. I've sure made some. Let's see if he can bring along some other republicans to step forward and defend Mueller. Call me an optimist.

He needs to apologize for wasting so much tax payer money.
On Ryan, they were discussing his legacy this morning. He is proud of what he accomplished. When I think of Boehner and Ryan my mind goes to over 50 useless votes to kill Health care for the American people.

(2,850 posts)He's never bothered with logic or rationale when it comes to anything, and his reasons for wanting to end the investigations are obviously rooted in a guilty conscience and a desire to escape consequences. The republicans have to either follow him into denouncing perfectly defensible law enforcement practices, or risk pissing off the deplorables.
squirm gowdy.
