Devin Nunes Threatens To Impeach DOJ's Rod Rosenstein And FBI's Chris Wray

The top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee says he is prepared to impeach the head of the FBI and Deputy Attorney General if he doesnt get a two-page document he says prompted the Russia investigation.
Just the fact that they're not giving this to us tells me there's something wrong here, California Republican Representative Devin Nunes told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on the The Ingraham Angle Tuesday night.
I can tell you that we're not just going to hold in contempt, we will have a plan to hold in contempt and to impeach, Nunes told Ingraham, who asked what his committee would do to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein if they dont bow to his demand.
The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee has been seeking an unredacted version of the document, which marked the beginning and formal basis of the FBIs investigation of the Trump campaign on allegations it aided Russias interference in the 2016 election.

Now there is NOTHING they wont support as long as it is racist, misogynist, homophobic, etc.
Nothing.
Obama being elected and then a smart, non nonsense woman wanting to be next? Fuck , that was way too much for deplorables or what is really about SIXTY MILLION Americans who VOTE.

Corporate interests fuel this Bozo, but he IS in trouble out here. I live out amongst farm fields and his 3'X5' campaign signs keep mysteriously disappearing or ending up on the ground with tire tracks on them. And I'm not the cause!
We laughed at the irony of Nunes being tapped for the "intelligence" committee. Talk about an oxymoran!!! I do believe he'll be but one grain of sand against the blue wave.
Thanks for the encouraging report.

(24,701 posts)I really want to see this jerk Nunes, brought into a federal court, for obstruction of justice, and the best way to do this is to vote him out, and then brought in to explain his BS and watch him lie...............and it would be to funny if he had to go before Janz..................

(32,083 posts)He's that stupid. I have little doubt that he's in the Russia stuff up to his eyeballs. He's as dumb as Spanky, and he likely thinks that eliminating the investigators will make everything go away. I wouldn't be surprised if he caught wind of a pending raid on his offices.

A plan, you say! Well, good luck with that, buttercup.
Think you can even get a majority on your committee to vote to hold in contempt the (new) director of the FBI and the Deputy Attorney General?
Think you can even get a majority on your committee to vote to move it to the House floor?
Think you can even get a simple majority of the House to vote on something this explosive? (Tell me again how many R's are not running for re-election...?)
Think you can even get two-freaking-thirds of the Senate to vote to convict?
Can you imagine the witnesses the director of the FBI and the Deputy Attorney General will call in defense and the damage they can do to you?
Not very bright, are 'ya?

(16,113 posts)My concern (in general) is that it's not good when agencies that are supposed to have oversight are told they can't have information they request without a clear explanation. That's how the inmates end up running the asylum.
True Blue American
(17,984 posts)But do not forget Nunes recused himself, lied about that, sneaked in the WH to share news.
Closed down the investigation, then wrote 2 lying memos.
Decent Republicans are not going to put their necks on the line for Nunes.
hughee99
(16,113 posts)I think it's a problem when an agency doesn't comply with it's oversight and doesn't explain why it won't or can't. I don't trust Nunes, but as long as he's in that position, they need to either comply or explain why, don't they? We shouldn't need to speculate about this, it only feeds into the idea that there is a "deep state" that controls things and they don't answer to elected officials. That idea fosters distrust in government and is a rallying point for republican voters.

(33,643 posts)And then they can either order the unredacted version be given to Nunes, or explain to Nunes ... why it is that it cannot be.
To be clear, Nunes HAS seen a redacted version, it's not like they've completely withheld the requested document.
hughee99
(16,113 posts)It's not that Nunes, personally, can't see it (although if there's a good reason for that, it should be addressed) it's that they're withholding it from the entire oversight committee seemingly without a clear explanation.

(10,952 posts)Trump so that such a move would constitute Obstruction of Justice with Mueller's probe. Nunes sure seems to be in league with Trump the way he would run to the WH late at night.
Due to Nunes ties to Trump, DOJ and FBI might be able to make the case that Nunes' actions are intended to interfere with an ongoing investigation an Nunes cannot be trusted to keep his mouth shut about anything he could learn from the.
hughee99
(16,113 posts)is it within their power to simply not cooperate? I don't believe it is. It's reached the point where if they have a problem with Nunes getting this information, they need to either say so or cooperate. This is exactly the sort of thing that gives all those people who talk about corruption and "the swamp" reason to believe it's true.

hughee99
(16,113 posts)as far as I know, the FBI and DOJ have neither turned it over or explained why they won't or can't.
Whiskeytide
(4,461 posts)... with their belief that Nunes cannot be trusted not to reveal investigative secrets/strategies to the targets and subjects of the ongoing investigation - which is clearly why he wants the documents in the first place. It's entirely possible that the initial trigger for the investigation summarizes wire-taps, identifies whistleblowers and sets out road maps following the $ ... and who knows what else. Nunes getting his hands on it could be very detrimental to the investigation - especially if he gets it and spills it before Trump is interviewed.
But it's a little awkward, I guess, to publicly tell a US Congressman that he's a leak-weasel and not trust-worthy enough to be given sensitive information.
hughee99
(16,113 posts)to withhold documents from oversight on the grounds that they "don't trust him". Otherwise, there's little incentive for organizations to comply with oversight at all.
