Tropical Storm Isaac Could Hit Republican Convention

Tropical Storm Isaac could hit Republican convention

(AFP) – 6 hours ago
MIAMI — A tropical storm swirling in the eastern Caribbean has raised the remote possibility that this year's Republican National Convention could be more blustery than usual.

Tropical Storm Isaac was east of Guadeloupe on Tuesday, and forecasters say it could become a hurricane on track to hit Florida next week, when Republicans gather in Tampa.

The US National Hurricane Center's five-day forecast shows the storm blowing over the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba but does not extend to Monday, when the four-day convention kicks off.

"It is too early to determine what, if any, impacts might be experienced in the Tampa area next week during the RNC," said Dennis Feltgen of the US National Weather Service.

Katrina was God's judgement on the evil homosekshuls that were about to meet in New Orleans. CA earthquakes are all, ALL about God's judgement on this same shameful group, the homasekshuls. Hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning strikes and VW-sized hail are ALL God's punishment for the harmasexuls.

It's just that God has very, very bad aim. Or is it?

As a resident of the Gulf beaches, other side of Tampa Bay, mandatory evacuee and with all the hassle and heartache of a hurricane, I say god send us a direct hit, category 5. Losing my house would be worth having the con's glitteriti have to deal with this. They have con's staying at hotels in a 60 mile radius from the convention hall, up and down the beaches. The hall itself is right on the bay. It has been disgusting to watch the ramp up to the convention ... $50M for security (thank you taxpayers), $20M for build out of the hockey arena, public facilities closed to keep the unwashed masses away ...

As far as prostitutes, cops have already conducted sweeps at Tampa's infamous strip clubs. Pros from 19yrs old to 61yrs old have been arrested.

Come to Tampa, wear some flowers in your hair, have your concealed carry gun strapped on, just don't bring now illegal squirt guns.

variable odds if it goes east or west after that.
As much I would love the irony of it hitting the Convention,I wish no strong hurricanes on anyone down there.
Too many people just can't afford to rebuild after a bad storm, in this economy.

Sometimes stuff like this works in the opposite way that you would expect. A hurricane hitting the Republican convention would probably help them in the polls. Many American's don't really do "politics." They vote on their emotions and don't even engage their cerebral cortex.

your MIL and best friend being in harm's way is funny? I'm in that area and have no $$ and no way to evacuate. Now, if we could just pinpoint damage/harm/fear/inconvenience onto (R) victims only, I might feel differently. But please don't wish this on us innocent Gulf Coasters.

The strength, track and speed of the storm make it too early to say if it would hit Tampa. Based on the TSR website it would hit the outskirts of Miami around 7pm on the 26th. Then again any of those variables could change between now and then. I've seen typhoons in Asia take very strange patterns (routes). Even if the exact path held it would probably hit only on the first day and as a tropical storm.

I totally "get" that the GOP convention presents a huge target for anger and dislike but I just can't bring myself to even joke about the idea of a major tropical storm / hurricane hitting Florida. The potential amount of suffering and threat to human safety is simply too great to celebrate for any reason.

Peace to you all, but I'm gonna be praying for this to be a non-event in Florida.

Frankly, I'm disgusted by this grave dancing, or wishful thinking, or whatever we might call it. Millions of innocent lives are impacted by the destruction that comes from a significant storm. Does anyone remember Katrina???? Who really was hurt? Poor people. Innocent people. Their pets, for Dog's sake! Rich people and politicians were safe and secure. Cheese and Rice. Have a fucking heart.

BTW -- I hate the (R) assholes as much as anyone.

I live in Illinois. In my lifetime I have helped clean up after at least four tornadoes--a couple of which were bad enough to make national headlines. One hit the farm where I grew up. Not to get all maudlin or anything, but it is next to impossible to describe the feeling of having to clear remnants of trees you planted forty years earlier away from the front door of your home. It is equally impossible to explain what it feels like to hear your neighbors crying for help when they are trapped in the rubble of what used to be their homes.

Ultimately, you do manage to cope, but I will guarantee that a thinking person will never wish that on anyone else.

Stay safe and be well, Ineeda.
