A man died at a party he was throwing at his home in the Heights after he put on a bullet proof vest and a guest shot him, Houston Police said.
Police were dispatched to the garage apartment on 23rd Street early Sunday. It was not immediately clear if the bullet had gone through the vest or if the shooter had missed the vest.
The suspect and another witness fled the scene, HPD said. Homicide detectives are trying to determine if the incident was a dare or not, and no charges have been filed.

MAN SHOT AND KILLED AT HIS OWN PARTY AFTER PUTTING ON BULLETPROOF VEST
BY HARRIET SINCLAIR ON 3/4/18 AT 12:39 PM
-snip-
The authorities are not yet able to determine whether the bullet from the gun went through the vest the man was wearing, or if the person who fired the gun missed and shot outside of the bulletproof vest area.
A forensic team is examining the evidence to see whether the bullet hit the vest or not.
Police were called to the Houston residence at around 1:30 am on Sunday following a report of a fatal shooting in the area, and told local media that there are thought to have been between six and eight people at the gathering when the shooting took place.
The authorities are currently working to find the man who allegedly fired the fatal shot at the party host, along with one other witness, in order to understand more about what happened at the party.
The news comes several months after a man in England shot dead his best friend testing out a protective vest that his friend, the victim had purchased from a military hardware store and believed to be bulletproof.

(1,204 posts)Although, maybe it was a flawed vest and they did hit the vest. Either way, why would someone do this? Even if all went well, then wouldn't the process of testing the vest destroy it? So if they felt confident enough that vest was of good quality, then they were actually planning ruining the vest. I suppose I am expecting too much to think someone who willingly has someone shoot them would think things through logically.

(50,682 posts)The idiot who shot at the idiot who was wearing the vest has a big problem: "But officer, he told me to!" is not a defense to a charge of homicide.
Because as we know, the only thing that stops a drunk guy with a gun is a gun store owner who won't sell him any ammo.

(846 posts)I was at a party at a condominium in Houston, when the host (most of the guests were gun nuts) took out his Glock pistol and was showing it to his friends. It went off. The bullet went through a coffee table, through the floor, and into the apartment below us. Luckily, the owners of the apartment downstairs were upstairs at the party. Everyone sobered up pretty quick - for about an hour.
We picked the bullet out of their kitchen floor the next day. Idiots with guns...
