Trumps budget hits poor Americans the hardest
Source: Washington Post
President Trump proposed a budget Monday that hits the poorest Americans the hardest, slashing billions of dollars in food stamps, health insurance and federal housing subsidies while pushing legislation to institute broad work requirements for families receiving housing vouchers, expanding on moves by some states to require recipients of Medicaid and food stamps to work.
The Trump budget proposal would gut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known as food stamps, by $17.2 billion in 2019 equivalent to 22 percent of the programs total cost last year. It calls for cuts of more than $213.5 billion over the next decade, a reduction of nearly 30 percent, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
In addition, Trump is proposing a full-scale redesign of SNAP, which provides an average of $125 per month to 42.2 million Americans. For the last 40 years, the program has allowed beneficiaries to use SNAP benefits at grocery stores as if they were cash. Under the budget proposal, the Department of Agriculture would use a portion of those benefits to buy and deliver a package of U.S.-grown commodities to SNAP households that receive $90 or more in assistance each month, using the governments buying power to obtain common foods at lower costs.
This budget proposes taking away food assistance from millions of low-income Americans and on the heels of a tax cut that favored the wealthy and corporations, said Stacy Dean, president for food assistance policy at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. It doesnt reflect the right values.

(13,111 posts)They intentionally make us jump through hoops.
They don't want to improve our lives.
They are so afraid we might have a nickel to spare.
They intend to make 90% of this country poor serfs and just let the rich rule over us as our masters. That is what the republicans intend to do.
We better relearn the lessons of the early 20th century or we're going to be rebuilding everything again.

Yeah giving $100 a month in food stamps really enables dependency! Those recipients are far and away too coddled with their ramen noodle suppers from the Dollar Store!

People throughout history like to cherrypick those damn letters to the Cornithians and Thessalonians, but when reading in both entirety and context, it's pretty obvious that for the most part he's discussing discipline or "works" in his worship of Jesus, not in the day to day real world.
As the old saying goes "the Devil can quote scripture". And Egos in search of causes love to listen to the Devil when scripture is quoted.

The contrast between this and the eight years of class, dignity, and compassion that Obama gave us could not be more stark. When this starts affecting the poor among Trump's supporters, they'll still find some way to blame Obama/Hillary/Democrats/progressives. Or, in their terms, the lib'ruls. Ugh.
